Emiru Presses Criminal Charges Following TwitchCon Assault

In response, Emiru stated that it would be her last TwitchCon event following the assault and urged other content creators to consider not going to any future TwitchCon events. Additionally, Emiru confirmed during an October 18 livestream that she is pressing criminal charges against the man who assaulted her at TwitchCon. Emiru stated that she filed a police report and said that TwitchCon's security staff failed to intervene during the incident. Emiru said she felt as if she "could have literally been stabbed" during the assault. Emiru also confirmed that her management pushed Twitch to take harsh actions against the assailant, after he was allowed to walk away before being caught sometime afterward. Emiru disputed Twitch's claims of a quick response, calling them "a blatant lie" during her October 18 broadcast and expressing disappointment in Twitch's support following the incident.

Twitch Makes Statement on TwitchCon Emiru Assault

Following the assault on Emiru, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said that the safety of content creators and fans is a top priority on Twitch. Clancy said that challenges can still present themselves despite the increased security at TwitchCon following Emiru's assault, and said that he was keeping a close eye on the situation. While Clancy could not divulge any specific details about how Twitch manages security moving forward, he said that part of the process involves working with creators to provide resources.

Unfortunately, TwitchCon was not the first time Emiru faced public harassment, as she and other content creators were confronted by a fan in March during the Sis-A-Thon event. Emiru has also not responded to Clancy's comments following TwitchCon.
