Summary

  • Jyamma Games' Enotria: The Last Song has a divisive reputation, with fans noting unique experiences and mechanical issues.
  • The improvement roadmap announced for Enotria includes various updates, but it simultaneously makes the game feel like it's still in early access.
  • Enotria: The Last Song's extensive improvement timeline may be impractical, as updates will stretch into March 2025 for a relatively short game.

Jyamma Games' Enotria: The Last Song has already made quite a name for itself, entering the last half of 2024 as one of the more divisive games to be released this year. There is certainly a unique experience to be found in Enotria: The Last Song, but it is riddled with issues that some fans might still say are due to a misunderstanding of the game's mechanics.

In response to the many issues of Enotria: The Last Song, Jyamma Games revealed an improvement roadmap to highlight some changes coming to the game throughout the next six months. Unfortunately, the roadmap simultaneously works against Enotria, perhaps too much to save it from here.

The Good and Bad of Enotria: The Last Song's Improvement Roadmap

Enotria: The Last Song's Improvement Roadmap Shows the Commitment of the Devs

Indie games, more often than not, tend to have devs committed to making the game the best it can be. Suppose a game that launches in a bad state isn't followed by a response from its developer about how it intends to improve the game. In that case, its player count typically dwindles rapidly as players lose faith in the developer and the game's future. Fortunately for fans of Enotria: The Last Song, within days of its release, Jyamma Games revealed an improvement roadmap for Enotria, which is a good sign of the developer's commitment and a good omen for where the game might eventually end up.

The improvement roadmap for Enotria is extensive, and that's putting it mildly. There are dozens of improvements making their way to the game if only they could arrive much sooner than planned due to Enotria's current rocky state. Many of the upcoming improvements include respec being moved from the High Priestess of Veltha to Pulcinella at the Theater of the Masks, updates to the Maskless One's movement animations, better quest guidance overall, and more variety added to each weapon's moveset.

Enotria: The Last Song's Improvement Roadmap Makes the Game Feel Like It's in Early Access

No matter how committed Jyamma Games are to improving Enotria, that alone may not be sufficient in the end. Unfortunately, despite the number of updates lined out for it, Enotria's improvement roadmap didn't build trust within the community due to being revealed just a few days after the game's Steam release. It's not a good look for Enotria, as it suggests the game was released in more of an early access state than expected, regardless of how honorable the roadmap's intentions are. Perhaps Enotria might have been better off adopting something akin to GreedFall 2's early access model instead.

The Timeline for Enotria: The Last Song's Improvement Roadmap Might Stretch Too Far

Something else that works against Enotria is how comprehensive the updates are and how far into the future the improvement roadmap extends. For a game that has been reported to take players only around 15 or 20 hours to complete, to then have updates planned for up to six months later means Enotria may be long gone out of players' minds by the time its last set of improvements arrives in March 2025. This is especially unfortunate considering the shadow cast by the recent success of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, as well as all the highly anticipated video games coming out between now and March 2025.

It's hard to say what might have been done differently here, as Enotria: The Last Song's improvement roadmap is both a blessing and a curse, and the only other solution might have been to just take the game down, refund players, and try again next time. However, that's highly unrealistic and would never have happened, leaving Enotria with no choice but to simply inform players about how it plans to improve their experience and then hope they are in it for the long haul.
