Puzzle Games Where The Rules Constantly Change

Players have to stay sharp when it comes to the following puzzle games - the rules are constantly changing!

Always Stockpile Resources

Almond Water Escape the Backroom

As you explore dimly lit offices, empty hallways, and surreal environments, you should always check shelves, lockers, drawers, and cabinets to find essential resources. Items like Almond Water, Energy Bars, Juice, and Moth Jelly can make all the difference between survival and death.

In co-op mode, distribute the workload. For example, have one player focus on searching all containers while the other player keeps watch for entities. If you’re playing solo, move cautiously but thoroughly.

Always keep track of your way back to safety. Wandering too far for a few extra supplies can easily turn into a fatal one-way trip. Stockpile what you can, but never risk your life for it.

Don’t Sprint Unnecessarily

Sprinting in Escape the Backrooms

One of the biggest mistakes new players make is running everywhere. While it feels natural to rush through empty hallways, sprinting drains your stamina. Your stamina doesn't recover instantly. If you empty your energy bar by sprinting around, you'll have nothing left when a chase actually begins.

Maintain Communication with Your Teammates

Teammates in Escape the Backrooms

Escape the Backrooms is built around teamwork. If you’re playing with friends, constant communication can help you avoid dying alone in a random corridor. You can use voice chat to coordinate searches, warn each other of entities, or call out directions when someone gets lost.

If voice chat isn't an option, agree on simple flashlight signals before you start playing.

Manage Your Stamina

Your stamina bar determines how long you can run before becoming exhausted. By default, you only get about 4 seconds of sprint time before it's drained, and it takes another 4 seconds to fully recover. If you try to hold the run key even while moving slowly or crouching, your stamina will continue to drain.

You can boost your stamina with items like Energy Bars, Juice, and Moth Jelly. Use them strategically and only when you need them the most. The Energy Bar grants a short extra sprint before exhaustion, while the Juice gives a temporary speed boost. Moth Jelly combines the benefits of both Energy Bars and Juice, letting you run longer and faster.

Manage Your Sanity

Another important metric you need to manage in Escape the Backrooms is your Sanity. On Easy mode, sanity doesn’t decrease, but on higher difficulties, it constantly drains and sometimes even falls faster in certain areas. As such, you should always keep an eye on your Sanity Meter in the inventory.

You can quickly restore your sanity in Escape the Backrooms by using consumables like Almond Water, Energy Bars, Juice, and Moth Jelly. Almond Water is your best option, as it restores a full 50% sanity.

When sanity drops below 15%, you’ll start seeing hallucinations. These are warnings that your mind is deteriorating. If your sanity fully depletes, you die instantly, even if you’re in the middle of drinking Almond Water.
