2021’s Eternals delivered a jaw-dropping post-credits scene that’s still to come to fruition in the MCU’s timeline, and the starring Game of Thrones actor has finally been suited and booted as their promised hero, even if some fans have forgotten the character’s debut. Chloe Zhao took the reins of Eternals, the ensemble feature starring Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie, et al, as immortal beings who are tasked with protecting the Earth from Deviants.
Released as part of the MCU’s Phase Four, Eternals received a lukewarm reception, failing to gain as much popularity as the preceding Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the following smash hit, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed Eternals 2 would not happen any time soon, despite Pip the Troll actor Patton Oswalt prematurely announcing a sequel was in production a few years ago, alongside other rumors of its green light. The film’s post-credits scene sets up the arrival of two anticipated characters, and while fans wait for those teases to be fulfilled, an artist has taken it upon themselves to make sure one gets the spotlight they deserve.
‘I Don’t Know Where Marvel Is At’ Mahershala Ali’s Latest Comments Prove Now Isn’t The Time For Blade
Mahershala Ali's latest comments have had fans questioning whether Marvel Studios should make a Blade movie right now.
Marvel Fan Brings Kit Harington's Black Knight to Life in Fan Art Poster
Posted on Instagram by welove_marvel, a stunning fan poster was shared showing Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman finally becoming Black Knight. The Game of Thrones star is clad in black armor while sporting Geralt of Rivia-like scars on his face, with the Ebony Blade held firmly in place. Harington stated Marvel had nothing in the works for Black Knight last year, adding to The Best War Games’s own Joshua Kristian McCoy’s claim that dropping Black Knight from the MCU was a smart move after it fell into Marvel’s post-Endgame list of false promises, joining Thor: Love and Thunder’s Hercules tease. Unsurprisingly, fans loved the creative poster, and some couldn’t help but ask if Jon Snow had crossed IPs.
Eternals' post-credits scene saw Dane preparing to handle the Ebony Blade, confirming Harington was indeed planned to become Black Knight. The surprise also included the voice of Mahershala Ali’s Blade, which teed up an exciting on-screen partnership between the vampire hunter and Dane. Eternals’ VFX supervisor even teased the appearance of Black Knight’s Ebony Blade in Ali’s solo Blade movie, a project that seems to be endlessly stuck in development hell. Marvel’s failure to deliver anything from Eternals’ post-credits bait (not including the Harry Styles cameo nobody asked for) is frustrating for fans of Midnight Sons, for example, who want to see these darker characters join forces in the silver-screen universe.
While the fandom continues to wait for Black Knight, something that Marvel is delivering on is a stellar marketing campaign for the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Despite Kit Harington being benched for the time being, Fantastic Four star Vanessa Kirby named the Marvel actors who offered her advice after joining the franchise, proving family does extend outside the superhero quartet. The MCU’s oversaturation of projects post-Endgame has certainly slowed down for the time being, but perhaps, once Blade gets up and running, Black Knight will find the space to show his qualities.
