One of the many things players might struggle with is how to build a Trade Office in EU5, as when looking for a location in their realm to build one, there will never be an option. This is because Trade Offices are slightly different than most buildings in the game.

What Is A Trade Office In Europa Universalis 5?

The Trade Office is a building that ensures friendly merchants gain more opportunities to establish profitable relations with foreign traders. Naturally, they are part of a thriving economy in EU5.

At Level 1, it provides the following effects to the owner and can level up:

Maritime Presence to Owner: +0.05
Trade Advantage: +0.2
Trade Capacity to Owner: +0.3

Trade Offices cost around 45 Ducats and take around a year to be built. They require 100 Burghers to function correctly and will typically use up 0.1 Paper per month.

Requirements For Building A Trade Office In Europa Universalis 5

Many players will try to build a Trade Office, but quickly realize they have nowhere to place it in their own lands. This is because Trade Offices in EU5 can only be built in foreign lands, but there are a few more requirements highlighted below.

Can only be built in foreign locations.
Requires the owner of the location to have at least 100 opinion of you.
Can be built in a city.
Can be built in a town.
Must be built in a location that is a port.

Some starting nations in EU5, such as Naples, will be able to build Trade Offices in a few places along the Italian and Greek coastlines at the start of the game, while other nations will have work to do.

Out of these conditions, finding ports is of the utmost importance, and then players can sway the rulers of these ports to increase their opinion.

How To Increase Opinion In Europa Universalis 5

By opening up the panel of a foreign ruler, players will see their opinion just to the right of their flag. Clicking this button and confirming will start to improve their opinion over time at the cost of diplomats monthly.

Offering an alliance and some other diplomatic actions will also help. Naturally, waging war or conducting any hostile actions, such as fabricating title claims, will not help.

Europa Universalis 5 - Build Trade Office

To build a Trade Office, like other buildings, go to the Production tab, and you should start on Buildings. Then type in Trade Office. When building, players should see any available locations in green, allowing them to click here.

Try to choose the locations with the most control and the highest market access. These stats can be seen on the left before entering the build menu.
