At some point or another, everyone had the game Angry Birds downloaded onto their phones or tablets. This simple but addicting game allows players to help a group of birds. Some evil pigs steal their precious eggs and plan to gobble them up. It's up to players to launch the birds at various structures and harm the pigs to retrieve their eggs.
Fans of Angry Birds likely remember the very first game. Now, there are dozens more Angry Birds games in the series! Even though they all stay true to the main story, for the most part, they are quite different. They contain different birds, settings, goals, and more.
Updated October 14, 2021 by Erik Petrovich: The Angry Birds series has been a mainstay of mobile gaming since its very inception. The original game is still one of the most popular apps of all time, more than a decade later, and recent games have changed a lot about the formula while maintaining what makes the brand special. Many Angry Birds games were released and then swiftly canceled, and unfortunately not every game in the series is still playable. One might be surprised which games are still playable, though many of the wildly different games like Angry Birds Legends or Angry Birds Space can no longer be played at all.
29 Angry Birds
The very first Angry Birds game is from all the way back in December 2009. Players fling the birds towards different structures to get their eggs back from the evil pigs. The goal is to knock down as many of the structures as possible to gain up to three stars for each level.
It's a game that took inspiration from many Flash games at the time, and whether you're a fan of it or not, spawned one of the biggest mobile gaming brands of all time.
28 Angry Birds Seasons
The second Angry Birds game is from October 2010. The title of Angry Birds Seasons basically summarizes the game. It is the same as the original one except the birds are in different seasons throughout the year. There are also power-ups in this game.
It started as Angry Birds Halloween but was changed to Seasons around Christmas in 2010. The different seasons and weather effects made enough of a gameplay difference to make it much more fun than the original.
27 Angry Birds Rio
The third Angry Birds game is Angry Birds Rio which is from March 2011. This game relates to the movie Rio so instead of pigs, there are birds in cages. Players have to fling the birds at structures to set the birds in cages free.
It wasn't left on its own once Rio was released, though. When Rio 2 came out three years later, the game received a significant update that added levels related to the sequel.
26 Angry Birds Friends
The fourth Angry Birds game is Angry Birds Friends from February 13 2012. It is very similar to the original games such as Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons but with a twist. The birds cause more damage and fly for a long time. There are also coins players can collect to buy power-ups.
The mobile game was originally programmed as a Flash game, but the project was cancelled by Robio and Adobe in favor of Angry Birds Friends.
25 Angry Birds Space
The fifth Angry Birds game is Angry Birds Space from March 2012. Players find themselves in space where they have to help the birds get their eggs back. The new bird in this game turns around after flinging it. This helps take the structures down from behind.
Despite the game's interesting gameplay and use of all-new abilities, the game was removed from the app store alongside a swathe of Angry Birds games in 2019.
24 Angry Birds Star Wars
The sixth Angry Birds game Angry Birds Star Wars is from November 2012. This game is similar to Angry Birds Space except with a Star Wars flair. For example, the birds have powers, and players can customize them and even play as Darth Vader.
The game proved immensely popular – what else could one expect with a crossover between two of the largest brands in history? It received a sequel that, like the Star Wars saga, served as a prequel to the first game.
23 Angry Birds Star Wars II
The seventh Angry Birds game is rather self-explanatory. The September 2013 game Angry Birds Star Wars II is a simple sequel to the first one. However, the slingshots are lightsabers, and the birds can be villains.
The game was interesting in that it combined the ability to control enemies in Bad Piggies with the Angry Birds Star Wars formula. It gave players the option to play as the "Pork Side" granting new abilities.
22 Angry Birds Go!
The eighth Angry Birds game is quite different from the others at this point. In the December 2013 game, Angry Birds Go!, pigs race karts as the birds watch them. Players can pick from various characters to play as, and there are many items they can use while racing as well.
It wasn't as popular as some of the other Angry Birds games, but that's partially because kart racing games just don't work as well on mobile devices as they do on consoles.
21 Angry Birds Epic
The ninth Angry Birds game from June 2014 really changes things up. In Angry Birds Epic, players battle against pigs. They can swipe the screen to attack pigs with various weapons. Players receive damage if someone else attacks them.
Unlike other games from before 2019, Angry Birds Epic still has its servers up. It can't be downloaded anymore from app stores, but players who downloaded it already can still play the game as it was in its final update.
20 Angry Birds Stella
Angry Birds Stella is the tenth game in the series from September 2014. It is the same as the original game except with a few differences. Players can collect stars and coins during the game that unlock more birds. There is also one power-up of a hammer and mini-games.
It was a more story-driven game than the other games in the Angry Birds series, and even spawned a sequel spin-off game. It was discontinued early in 2015, not even a year after it was released, and subsequently removed from the app store in 2016.
