Compared to the Water-type and the Grass-type, the Fire-type is known to be much more energetic. In fact, many Fire-type starter Pokémon, such as Scorbunny and Cyndaquil, are known for their enthusiastic personalities, especially when fighting. Many Trainers love this type, and even choose to specialize in it due to its sheer power and grace.

As the Fire-type is so popular and common, it is often seen in the Pokemon anime. Many Trainers, whether they are major characters or characters-of-the-day, are often seen with a Fire-type. However, there are some Fire-type Pokémon, many of which are starter Pokémon, that remain the best of their category.

Emboar’s Flames Create a Distinctive Beard

The Fire/Fighting-type Is Extremely Loyal to Its Friends

Emboar, the Fire-type starter of the Unova region, is the third known Fire/Fighting-type starter. The evolved form of Tepig and Pignite, Emboar is able to generate tons of fire from its body. As a result, a great beard made of fire is always shown blazing around the Mega Fire Pig Pokémon's neck and chest. These flames are known to burn even brighter during intense battles.

Tepig and Pignite were seen in the original Pokémon anime, via the Pignite trained by Ash. However, the only major Emboar shown was via Bianca, a character based off of a major supporting character in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White. Aside from Bianca's Emboar, who was shown to be an impressive fighter, Fire/Fighting-type Pokémon owned by Tatsuki and Nate have also appeared in the movies and in the game trailer for Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2. Emboar has also received a new Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, though an animated version has yet to debut.

Tyhphlosion’s Fur Can Create Powerful Explosions

Typhlosion Was One of the First Pokémon To Use Flame Wheel

Typhlosion In The Pokemon Anime

Out of all the starter Pokémon in the Johto region, Cyndaquil appears to be the one chosen the most. Aside from the fact that Cyndaquil itself and its evolution, Quilava, are great Pokémon, many Trainers look forward to having the Volcano Pokémon on their roster. Throughout its life, Typhlosion has powerful flames emanating from its fur, which is able to create explosions. These flames take on a more ghostly appearance if one's Quilava instead evolves into the Fire/Ghost-type Hisuian Typhlosion.

Though Cyndaquil and Quilava had major supporting roles working with Ash, the famous Pokémon Trainer never evolved his Fire-type. As such, the only major appearance of Typhlosion was via Jimmy, the anime counterpart of Ethan. Like Ash and Pikachu, Jimmy and Typhlosion are the best of friends and extremely loyal to one another. The Volcano Pokémon is also shown to be a very strong Pokémon, able to withstand even Water-type moves with ease.

Cinderace Is Roy’s Partner Pokémon

Cinderace Has a Signature Gigantamax Form and Move

Cinderace In The Pokemon Anime

The Rabbit Pokémon, Scorbunny, is rarely seen standing still; it absolutely loves to be active and partake in an exciting battle! Upon evolving into Raboot, however, the Fire-type appears more nonchalant, though it is always practicing its footwork. At the final stage of its evolutionary line as a Cinderace, the Striker Pokémon once again becomes energetic, albeit with a tendency to lose its cool whenever it loses. However, this rabbit-like Pokémon is a determined fighter and will always do its best for a Trainer it trusts.

A well-known Cinderace in the franchise is the one owned by Goh, a former traveling companion of Ash and Pikachu. Though Goh initially only wanted to have a Mew as his starter Pokémon, he later let go of this aspiration after meeting a Scorbunny who wished to become his friend. Upon evolving fully, Cinderace kept his adventurous and often rambunctious personality, though became a much more serious fighter. Like in the games, Cinderace's signature move is Pyro Ball, which grows much stronger after transforming into Gigantamax Cinderace.

Skeledirge Is Famous for Its Singing

The Fire-type starter of Paldea, Fuecoco, is rarely seen in a bad mood. This cheerful crocodile-like Pokémon truly marches to the beat if its own drum; quite literally, in fact, as its Hidden Ability is Unaware. The Fire Croc Pokémon enjoys lounging on warm rocks in order to absorb heat energy, though after evolving into Crocalor and Skeledirge, it is able to generate this energy itself much easier. Skeledirge is a unique Fire-type Pokémon due to its flames; one flame in particular appears to have gained a soul, and rests upon its snout in the shape of a bird.

Skeledirge's singing is said to soothe the souls of its listeners, though its flames are truly a force to be reckoned with. Both of these skills combined create Skeledirge's signature move, Torch Song, during which the Pokémon's bird companion turns into a microphone before rushing at its foe. A prominent example of Skeledirge lies with Roy's partner Pokémon, who he has known since the latter was a Fuecoco. Like the rest of its species, Skeledirge loves to sing and eat, though it is also a very powerful fighter, especially since evolving.

Delphox Is Said To Be Able To Forsee the Future

Serena Is Rarely Seen Without Her Performance-Loving Delphox

The Fox Pokémon Fennekin is known for its distinctively large ears, which can store air at temperatures over 390 degrees Fahrenheit. However, as this Pokémon often overheats, it will also use its ears to expel hot air in order to cool down. To gain energy, Fennekin is often known to munch on twigs, a trait that evolves alongside the Fire-type. As Braixen and then Delphox, the Fire/Psychic-type will instead use twigs to control its firepower, or gaze into the future via flames.

Several Delphox have been seen in the anime, though the most popular one by far remains Serena's partner Pokémon. Like her Trainer, Delphox loves to perform, and strongly supports Serena's goal to become Kalos Queen. Upon evolving into her final form, Delphox has also become an excellent fighter, as seen with moves such as Fire Blast and her signature move Mystical Fire. She has become very experienced with using such moves for performing as well as battling, making her a versatile Pokémon ally.

Incineroar Has an Aggressive and Cunning Fighting Style

The Heel Pokémon Is Known To Be Surprisingly Compassionate

Royal Mask and Incineroar - Pokemon

Litten, the Fire-type starter Pokémon of the Alola region, is famous for its adorable appearance. However, upon evolving into Torracat and then Incineroar, the Fire/Dark-type becomes less cute and more fierce. The Heel Pokémon's earlier Pokédex entries certainly appear to view Incineroar as a wicked Pokémon, labeling it as egotistical and violent. Though this feline Pokémon is certainly known for its ruthless fighting style, it is known to be very kind to children and small Pokémon.

Two famous Incineroar have appeared in the anime, being the ones owned by Professor Kukui and Ash Ketchum. As Professor Kukui loves battling, especially in his Masked Royal persona, he gets along amazingly well with Incineroar. This Heel Pokémon also formed a rivalry with Ash's Litten at the start of its own journey, motivating it to get stronger. By the time Ash's Incineroar had fully evolved, it managed to defeat Professor Kukui's Fire/Dark-type.

Blaziken Was the First Fire/Fighting-type Pokémon

Pokemon Fan Redesigns of Hoenn Starters and Their Evolutions

The adorable Torchic is known for being very attached to its Trainer, mainly due to its nervous personality. However, with patience and support, the Chick Pokémon will gain the confidence it needs to become its strongest self. Later on, after fully evolving, Blaziken fights with great faith in itself and its power, as well as trust in its beloved Trainer. It is thanks to this Pokémon's amazing statistics, movepool and Mega Evolution that Blaziken remains such a famous Pokémon.

May, one of Ash's former traveling companions, chose Torchic as her starter Pokémon due to its cute appearance. The Fire/Fighting-type has since remained by its Trainer's side, whether for battles or Pokémon Contests. However, the species officially debuted through Harrison's Blaziken, who was powerful enough to defeat Ash's Charizard. The Mega Evolved version of the Blaze Pokémon, Mega Blaziken, was first shown via Meyer's own Pokémon while the Trainer acted as the hero Blaziken Mask; the duo would later join the fight against Team Flare.

Infernape’s Fire Will Never Go Out

Ash’s Infernape Fought To Be Seen as Powerful

Like many other starter Pokémon trios, the three starter Pokémon from the Sinnoh region remain fan-favorites. Aside from the cute Piplup and the calm Turtwig, the energetic Chimchar is a Pokemon with a powerful legacy. Though Chimchar and its first evolution, Monferno, are fantastic Pokemon, Infernape is an outstanding Fire-type Pokemon. The second known Fire/Fighting type starter Pokémon, Infernape, has a powerful flame on its head that is destined to never go out. In fact, it will only blaze brighter when battling a tough opponent.

Though Flint of the Elite Four has a powerful Infernape as his ace, the most well-known Infernape by far is the one owned by Ash. After being abandoned by his former Trainer, Paul, for being "too weak", Chimchar became part of Ash's roster. Determined to work alongside a Trainer who genuinely wanted to help him and especially determined to prove his old Trainer wrong, Infernape trained to become the extraordinary fighter he is now. The greatest achievement of his career by far remains the battle against Paul's powerful Electivire, a fight that truly showcased how far Ash and Infernape had come.

Charizard Is the Most Famous Fire-type Starter

Ash’s Charizard Remains a Famous Supporting Character

Though starter Pokémon trios are continuously introduced, many fans are especially loyal and nostalgic for the earlier generations. Perhaps the most famous starter trio, the Pokémon of the Kanto region, often have leading roles in favorite Pokémon ranked lists. Alongside Bulbasaur and Squirtle, Charmander is one of the most beloved starter Pokémon ever. This adorable Fire-type especially became famous due to its role in the original Pokémon anime.

After being abandoned by his original Trainer and left out in the rain, Charmander becomes good friends with Ash, who is at the very start of his journey as a Trainer. Though things grow very complicated after the sweet-natured Lizard Pokémon evolves into Charmeleon and Charizard and becomes aggressive, Ash is able to help the Flame Pokémon remember their friendship. Since then, Charizard has remained one of Ash's most powerful allies, even standing his ground against a unique Entei created by a horde of Unown. Although Ash's Charizard never learned to Mega Evolve like Alain's Pokémon or Gigantamax like Leon's Pokémon, the Fire/Flying-type nevertheless battles in his own way and is sure to remain a fan-favorite for generations.
