The PlayStation and Xbox brands have been at the forefront of the console wars for over twenty years, with Sony and Microsoft not only developing their own video game hardware but also their own exclusive software that could only be played on their respective systems. However, times have changed, and the concept of the console war has been slowly dying down.
Best Xbox Game Studio Titles On PlayStation, Ranked
Xbox may have some incredible exclusives under its belt, but it's been kind enough to let PlayStation users join in on the fun, too.
Fortunately for the consumers, Microsoft has completely changed its strategy over the past few years, and it began porting video games that were originally published by Xbox Game Studios over to the PlayStation 5. These are all the existing examples of this strange but welcome crossover, including upcoming titles that have yet to be released at the time of writing.

An Action RPG Minecraft Spin-Off

Microsoft’s acquisition of Mojang Studios (and, by extension, of the Minecraft IP) was a monumental moment for the video game industry. Many people were worried that subsequent ports of this classic game and/or future spin-offs were going to remain exclusive to Xbox consoles, but fortunately, this never ended up happening. As a result, Minecraft Legends was released on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 at the same time.
Developed by Mojang and published by Xbox Game Studios, Minecraft Legends is a hybrid between an action RPG and a strategy game that takes place in the colorful cubic world of this beloved series. The Minecraft franchise has a massive fan base nowadays (of which a large portion consists of children), so it’s a good thing that titles like this one are not exclusive to just one brand of home console.

Obsidian Entertainment, known for games like Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth, was one of many development studios that Microsoft acquired during the mid-2010s, and as a result, all of its games remained exclusive to Xbox systems for a few years. However, Microsoft announced its plans to port its games over to competing consoles in 2024, and Pentiment was the very first one in the list.
This game is described as a historical adventure RPG that’s set in 16th-century Europe and was brought to life via a beautiful hand-painted art style. Pentiment is a unique and beautiful experience that may not be for everyone, but it’s perfect for any history buffs out there.
Grounded
A Ruthless Survival Game Set In A Miniature World
Grounded
- Released
- September 27, 2022
- ESRB
- T for Teen: Blood, Mild Language, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror, RPG
Grounded is another Obsidian Entertainment project that was originally exclusive to Xbox consoles but was ported to PlayStation 5 in April 2024. It’s reminiscent of movies like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, seeing as it revolves around a group of kids who get shrunken down by a mysterious machine and have to survive in their own backyard.
Grounded is a co-op survival game, meaning that players have to collect resources, fight bugs and other small critters, and craft weapons and tools in order to keep these kids alive and find out how they ended up in that dangerous situation. It’s a ruthless but surprisingly engaging gameplay cycle, and fans of the survival genre will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Its sequel, Grounded 2, was announced quite recently, and while it seems like it’ll be an Xbox and PC exclusive for the moment, it’ll most likely be ported to PS5 at one point after its initial release.
Sea Of Thieves
Rare’s Ambitious Pirate Adventure
Sea of Thieves
- Released
- March 20, 2018
- ESRB
- T for Teen: Crude Humor, Use of Alcohol, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Adventure
The release of Sea of Thieves in 2018 was a historical moment for Xbox fans because it was the first game developed by Rare in over ten years that was not a collection of its previous titles or a motion-controlled Kinect exclusive. While it initially got some mixed reviews, this colorful pirate game was slowly improved by consistent updates and expansions, and it now has a considerable player base.

Sea of Thieves was one of the other exclusives that Microsoft decided to port to the PS5 in early 2024, which means that users of Sony's console can now enjoy this ambitious and expansive pirate adventure that includes sailing, sword fighting, naval combat, treasure hunting, looting, and more. And the best part is that Sea of Thieves has cross-play enabled, meaning that Xbox Series X/S players and PS5 players can freely interact with each other.
Age Of Mythology: Retold
The Long-Awaited Return Of A Classic Strategy Series
Age of Mythology: Retold
- Released
- September 4, 2024
- ESRB
- T For Teen Due To Violence
- Genre(s)
- Strategy
During the late-90s and early-2000s, years before it joined the home console industry, Microsoft was well-known for its many PC games, with the real-time strategy series, Age of Empires, being one of the most beloved ones. This led to the creation of Age of Mythology, a spin-off that ditched the historical roots of its predecessors and focused more on fantastical mythological characters and creatures.
Fortunately for fans of this game, Microsoft made a remastered version in 2024 titled Age of Mythology: Retold, which was eventually ported to the PS5 in 2025 alongside its Immortal Pillars expansion. This is basically the same timeless strategy title from 2002, but with enhanced modern graphics and a more accessible user interface. While most people prefer to play these types of games on PC (with a mouse), the controls of the PS5 port are surprisingly solid.
Forza Horizon 5
This Classic Racing Series Can Now Compete With Gran Turismo On The Same System
Forza Horizon 5
- Released
- November 9, 2021
- ESRB
- E for Everyone // In-Game Purchases, Users Interact
- Genre(s)
- Racing, Open-World
For many years, the racing simulator genre on home consoles was dominated by two popular franchises: Microsoft’s Forza series and Sony’s Gran Turismo series. However, after deciding to slowly ditch the concept of exclusives in 2024, Microsoft ported Forza Horizon 5 to the PlayStation 5 in April 2025.
The existence of this unexpected release means that racing enthusiasts can finally enjoy both Forza Horizon and Gran Turismo on the very same console. They definitely can’t go wrong with Forza Horizon 5, because this is an excellent video game with fast-paced gameplay, lifelike vehicle models, beautiful environments, and an addictive online multiplayer mode.
Age Of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
Age Of Empires Had To Arrive To The PS5 At Some Point
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition

- Genre(s)
- Real-Time Strategy
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is a remastered version of the classic real-time strategy game that was made to celebrate its 20th anniversary. While this title was released on PC and Xbox consoles in 2019, before Age of Mythology: Retold, it was ported to PS5 much later than its counterpart, in May 2025.
Nevertheless, real-time strategy fans are excited by the fact that both of these series are finally available on Sony’s console. Unlike Age of Mythology, Age of Empires 2 has a historical setting, and it features many real-life civilizations and armies, like the Celts, the Vikings, the Persians, the Mongols, and many more. Like its aforementioned spin-off, this PS5 port has a solid control scheme and cross-play multiplayer with the PC and Xbox versions.

Curiously enough, the first game in this series, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, was originally a PlayStation 4 exclusive until Microsoft purchased Ninja Theory in 2018 and ported it to the Xbox One. Thanks to this acquisition, the studio quickly began working on a sequel with a higher budget and a larger team, which resulted in the creation of Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2.
The Best Games of the 2020s So Far – Updated November 2025
These are the best games of the 2020s so far, covering titles from the last 5 years.
Like its predecessor, Hellblade 2 is an action-adventure game that plays and feels like nothing else on the market. It takes place in a Norse Mythology setting, and while it features solid gameplay with a dynamic combat system and some intriguing puzzles, its dark narrative has some psychological horror elements that elevate the entire experience and set it apart from similar titles. The Xbox and PC versions of Hellblade 2 received critical acclaim in 2024, and fortunately, it was ported to the PS5 this month.
