After months of speculation around a new entry and years of attempts to bring back the series, Microsoft finally announced a new Fable game is currently in development at the Xbox Games Showcase, giving fans a peak of what's to come. Developed by Playground Games, there are some heavy hitters among the staff working on the game.
As much as Fable returning is huge news, fans are cautiously optimistic with the newly announced game. After a few missteps within the series, including a canceled reboot on the Xbox One, questions immediately surrounded the new game with Microsoft's head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty assuring fans that the new game was indeed in good hands with the newly formed second team within the studio.
Developer Playground Games has been staffed with industry veterans that are responsible for some of the biggest games this Generation on the PS4 and Xbox One. Fans of Arkham Knight who are waiting for the rumored announcement of a new game may recognize script writers of the mega hit formerly of Rocksteady Craig Owens and Martin Lancaster are now part of the Fable team while Fable's cinematic director, Mark Tan is also a former member of Rocksteady.
Other industry vets on the team include Juan Fernández de Simón who previously worked on Hellblade, Adam Olsson who worked on The Division 2, and Chief Designer Will Kennedy, who worked on Grand Theft Auto 5 as a level Designer. As expected, many of the staff members who also worked on the Forza: Horizon series have migrated to the new team while the next focus in the Forza series is the newly announced Forza Motorsport for the Xbox Series X.
Fable is years away as no game play was shown of the title. While fans are eager to see the results of new studio they may not have to wait long for the Xbox Series X itself, which is rumoured to be releasing sooner than previously thought. In the meantime Microsoft still has plenty of details to release of the console in the summer so stay tuned.
Fable will Launch exclusively on Game Pass and the Xbox Series X.
