Character customization in a cozy game like Fae Farm is a big deal. Players can express themselves with unique hairstyles and features, or try to recreate people - themselves or others. Just as extensive custom character creators have become the norm, players have naturally come to expect that a game lets them change aspects of their character after 'completing' them.

While it's possible to change a character's looks in Fae Farm, players will need to craft a special item before it becomes possible. This guide will show players where to find the crafting recipe and explain how to obtain the necessary resources.

Getting The Customization Mirror Recipe

Fae Farm location of customization mirror

Before players can begin the process of changing their character's looks, they'll need to find the crafting recipe of the Customization Mirror. The recipe is always in the same location, but the sheer number of things to do in the game make it easy to miss - especially in the early game, when the player's farm is covered in logs, rocks, and plants to clear away. Seen in the screenshot above, players need to explore the campfire on the left side of their home. The plans are in the corner near the hammock and must be 'investigated' to collect.

Crafting a Customization Mirror

With the plans in hand, players need the resources and space to create the mirror. It is crafted inside their home (found in the Decor category) and requires:

  • 1x Glass
    • Glass is made by smelting 10 Sand with 2 Coal in a stone forge.
  • 5x Oak Log
    • Oak Logs are collected by chopping up oak trees and logs with a copper axe.

Both resources can only be acquired after unlocking the Saltwater Mines and gathering enough coal to smelt the copper ore and sand. The required stone forge is crafted with 25 stone and 10 coal, and upgrading an axe to copper requires 1 Copper Ingot and 100 florins. Players must visit Cindy in the Docks to have it upgraded. From there, the remaining steps are as simple as chopping up some of the dark brown oak logs on the farm and finding a spot to place the mirror in their home.

Upon interacting with the newly placed customization mirror, players will be taken to the character creation screen from the start of the game. Here, everything from pronouns and body type to skin and hair color can be changed to players' liking. This can be canceled or confirmed at any time, too.

Fae Farm is available now for PC and Nintendo Switch.
