There's not much time for romance among all the other activities in Fae Farm, but players looking to spice up their virtual love life have a great selection of potential partners. Some of the marriage candidates are available immediately, others are locked behind story progression, but each has a unique personality that can make them a joy to talk to, even if they don't end up walking the aisle.
That's not to say that players have to engage with Fae Farm's romance mechanics - the game makes it clear that it's all 100% optional. For those looking to learn more about the game's singles, this guide will share the basics, so players can make an informed decision. It's worth noting that in co-op, other players can marry NPCs, so players with a preferred partner should talk to and give gifts to them daily to avoid missing out.
How to Give Gifts
Romance is simultaneously more and less complicated than it needs to be. Players will see their romance with a character rise just by speaking to them daily - and this will eventually lead to a date - but the relationship can be boosted by bringing the character their 'favorite item of the day'. These refresh every morning and can be viewed by speaking to the character, so it's important to keep a pile of gifts to one side. Players are encouraged to keep at least two or three of each item in the game's shed of unlimited storage.
Despite NPCs in the game all having birthdays, there's seemingly nothing special about them mechanically - no major relationship boosts and no ability to throw a party at time of writing. The game's developers have promised DLC in future (free for deluxe edition PC players and all Switch players) so there may be updates to improve this system later.
Naturally, players will need to physically find the NPCs they like to give them items. Thankfully, the game's map allows them to track any given NPC with a waypoint that guides players to their location no matter how far they are.
Argyle
Argyle loves frogs, painting, and pottery - players looking to romance them should prepare for those to be the main topics of conversation. Argyle's desired items change daily, and are often tied to critters - they'll either want the critter or something they produce in a conservatory. The items Argyle wants can include (but are not limited to):
- Nectar
- Bug Juice
- Blob Gobs
- Frog Sweat
- Common Toad
- Spring Peeper
- Fae Dust
- Flutter Dust
- Ecto Dew
- Rainbow Frog - Argyle's favorite!
Jack
Jack's in town as soon as players arrive. He loves the outdoors, his family, and his hometown of Hibervert. Players that love hearing about the outdoors and want to learn about his many brothers are in for a treat. The gifts Jack likes are often foraged from nature or refined from trees - some of the items he can ask for are listed below.
- Beech Lumber
- Oak Lumber
- Sporewood Lumber
- Grilled Fruit
- Chopped Fruit
- Fruit Pies
- Fruit Salad
- Brown Snail - Jack's favorite!
Galan
Galan is one of the many characters that aren't available until the whirlpools are dealt with in Chapter 3. He's a warrior from the sandy Republic of Sagnow, but isn't a fan of a fighting lifestyle. Galan likes well-made food, and some of the items he can ask for are listed below - some are even sold by August in the tavern, making Galan a fairly easy character to seduce for wealthy players.
- Baked Mac and Cheese
- Deep-Sea Delight
- Magic Bean
- Scrambled Eggs With Fruit Salsa
- Candy Corn - Galan's Favorite!
Nhamashal
Nhamashal also arrives in Azoria after the whirlpools are gone, establishing himself as a pompous figure that's intellectually superior to those around him - especially the player. He grew up in a manor on Azoria, and has a keen eye for prestige. Naturally, Nhamashal has expensive tastes and is mostly interested in refined minerals and ores. Some of the items he will ask for are listed below.
- Polished Rose Quartz
- Polished Topaz
- Polished Sapphires
- Polished Emeralds
- Polished Amethyst
- Copper Ingots - Nhamashal's Favorite!
Pepper
Pepper isn't available until the whirlpools are gone, and she's a huge fan of all things foodie. Like Jack, she loves the outdoors, with a specific love of fishing and cooking setting her apart from the rest. These interests also apply to her daily gifts, which can include:
- Fish Jerky
- Mushroom Jerky
- Nut Butter
- Pickled Shellfish
- Pickled Veggies
- Flour
- Berry Jam - Pepper's Favorite!
Pyria
Pyria won't appear until the whirlpools have been dealt with, but will quickly become the island's resident goth. She loves black flowers, ancient scrolls, and spending time indoors with a book. Players looking to impress Pyria will need to look into growing flowers, as almost all of her material interests are flowers - specifically black ones - including those below.
- Black Zinnia
- Black Tulip
- Black Lily
- Black Hyacinth
- Gloom Shade
- Black Trillium - Pyria's Favorite!
