Fans of Rockstar Games' flagship series, Grand Theft Auto, have been waiting anxiously for any news on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, which was rumored to be announced earlier this month. However, with that announcement never coming, fans have begun looking elsewhere for any information on the game that they can find, which has led many to a suspicious Twitch account titled GTAVI.
While a few key aspects of the upcoming game have been leaked, such as actor Jorge Consejo appearing as "The Mexican" for the title in his resume, fans haven't seen anything from the actual game. There doesn't seem to be anyone outside of Rockstar that has any tangible information on Grand Theft Auto 6, or if anyone else does, they are staying responsibly tight-lipped about it.
This made it fairly convenient for fans, looking for any sneak peek or confirmed look at the rumored Grand Theft Auto 6, to latch onto a seemingly fake Twitch account. The account, titled GTAVI, is currently playing a single screen that seems to be a fairly accurate depiction of a Grand Theft Auto style cover picture, with a counter at the bottom left corner. No one really seems to know what the timer is leading up to, although the assumption is the announcement to Grand Theft Auto 6 that fans have been waiting for.
Unfortunately, while a lot of the information shared on the account seems to be legitimate, with links to Rockstar's social media accounts and website, there is plenty that certainly makes the account doubtful. Viewers have noticed, for one, that the account is not certified, unlike Rockstar's official Twitch account and affiliated Grand Theft Auto websites, which it would usually use for announcements like this. Although, the ultimate nail in the coffin for this supposed "reveal" is that the countdown timer is counting down to April 1st, leading many to believe that this is all an elaborate April Fool's prank.
Seeing as how an uncertified Twitch account managed to already grab the attention of thousands of players, only days after beginning its countdown should prove to show how highly anticipated a Grand Theft Auto sequel is. However, this does also leave the door open for fake leaks, reveals, and rumors to gain traction, throwing a wrench in the rollout process that Rockstar might have planned for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. So, while we might not actually get any real information when the countdown ticks to zero, this likely won't be the last time that fans are fooled by someone trying to tap into the GTA 6 craze.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development, with no announced release window.
