When Goblin Slayer first hit the screen back in 2018, it immediately became an internet sensation, mainly due to the horrifying scenes in the first episode. Countless people flocked to the series because of how gruesome this anime was, but almost every single one of them stayed till the end because of the gritty, hardcore, and action-packed story.
Interestingly enough, even though they had such a successful first season, it wasn’t until 2020 that fans got new content from Goblin Slayer in the form of a movie titled Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown.
And now, about five years after the first season, the second season of Goblin Slayer is finally right around the corner. Here’s everything that fans need to know before they watch the new season of this unapologetically brutal series.

Where The First Season of Goblin Slayer Ended
Unlike most anime movies that use a stand-alone story that rarely has anything to do with the main series, the 2020 Goblin Slayer movie was a direct adaptation of one of the arcs in the original series. Furthermore, while the first season started in chapter 1 and ended in chapter 29 of the manga, the movie began in chapter 41 and ended in chapter 54.
That means the upcoming season 2 will adapt the story before and after the events that happened in the movie. Specifically from chapter 30 to chapter 40, and then from chapter 55 onwards. So, if fanswant to get the full picture of the Goblin Slayer story, then they should watch that movie first before they get into the upcoming second season.
The first season of Goblin Slayer ended with the sudden goblin invasion that required the adventurers in town to work together to eradicate the bloodthirsty goblins, while Goblin Slayer and the priest girl fight against the menacing Goblin Lord. As for the movie, it ended with the Goblin Slayer party infiltrating the goblins’ lair deep within a snowy mountain range, massacred every goblin there, and used an ingenious tactic to defeat the raging Goblin Paladin.
What to Expect of The Second Season of Goblin Slayer
The second season of Goblin Slayer will still feature the quiet main character slaying goblins left and right, while occasionally hanging out with the other supporting characters, just like the first season. The main difference between the two seasons, however, is the fact that season 2 will push everything to the limit, both the action and the romance. That’s right, love is in the air in season 2.
There will be a particular arc in season 2 where our eponymous character spends a wholesome day with some of the most beautiful ladies in the series. But true to its name, the story will somehow manage to weave goblins into the heartwarming moments. In another arc, the Goblin Slayer party has to face hordes of goblins that are led by other devilish creatures, such as dark elves, trolls, goblin shamans, and many other sinister commanders.
So expect to see more heartwarming moments, more fast-paced actions, more ingenious tactics, and a different variety of places and enemies in the upcoming second season of Goblin Slayer.
New Characters, Same Staff
Most of the characters from the first season will appear in the second season as well, such as every member of the Goblin Slayer party, the farm girl, the beautiful receptionist at the Adventurer’s Guild, and fellow adventurers who hunkered down in the same town as Goblin Slayer.
Other than those staple characters, there are also several new faces in season 2. Most of them are rookie adventurers who come to the adventurers guild in pursuit of fame and glory with little to no power and experience. There’s the rude and overconfident Wizard Boy, the easy-going Rhea Girl, the overly optimistic Rookie Warrior, and the kind-hearted Apprentice Cleric, just to name a few.
When it comes to Goblin Slayer, the same staff worked on both the first season and the movie, such as Takaharu Ozaki as the director, Hideyuki Kurata responsible for the script and series composition, and Kenichiro Suehiro for the music, just to name a few. They certainly know what’s best for the anime adaptation of this series, which is why the same staff is responsible for the second season as well.
Needless to say, there are also some new people who come to work on this project, most of whom are the voice actors for the new characters. Other than that, we also get new theme songs for season 2. The opening theme song is “Entertainment” by Mili, while the ending theme song is “Kasumi no Mukō e” by Yuki Nakashima.
Release Date
Goblin Slayer Season 2 will premiere on October 6th as part of Crunchyroll's Fall 2023 anime lineup.
