Summary
- Fallout 3's designer wants Bethesda to make significant improvements to the game's gun combat in a potential remaster.
- The former Bethesda dev believes the Fallout 3 remaster should take cues from Fallout 4 to enhance its combat mechanics.
One of Fallout 3’s designers wants Bethesda to significantly improve the game’s gun combat in a remaster of the popular post-apocalyptic RPG. Although a Fallout 3 remaster hasn’t been confirmed yet, fans are hopeful that Bethesda will eventually announce it, especially after the success of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
With the 2008 release of Fallout 3, the franchise saw a dramatic change by adopting a first-person/third-person viewpoint, which took immersion to an entirely new level. The story of the game follows a resident of Vault 101 on their quest to find their father on an Earth devastated by war. Even though the game was released quite some time ago, Fallout 3 is still a solid option for players in 2025 looking for a classic experience, with features that work much better than many modern games. Fallout 3’s enduring popularity is one of the reasons fans want Bethesda to remaster the game, bringing the title to modern hardware. While the remaster is still a mystery, an ex-Bethesda developer has commented on it.
One Fallout 3 Side Quest Remains the Pinnacle of Storytelling in the Series
The Fallout series has several standout quests in terms of narrative, but there's one in Fallout 3 with a unique element for gamers to discover.
Speaking to VideoGamer, one of Fallout 3’s designers, Bruce Nesmith, said that the game didn’t have good gun combat, and that’s something he expects Bethesda to improve if they ever make a remaster. Nesmith believes that the Fallout 3 remaster should learn from Fallout 4, and he would like Bethesda to implement what it learned there regarding combat into the remaster, as he thinks Fallout 3’s combat “didn’t hold up to shooters at the time.”
Fallout 3 Designer Wants Improved Gun Combat in a Remaster
Nesmith also drew a comparison with the successful Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, emphasizing that Oblivion was not merely updated to match the 2011 version of Skyrim, but instead was improved to the point that it seems to surpass the latest graphics improvements made in Skyrim. He acknowledges that Fallout 3 was the first time the team tried to do a shooter-style game, and there is a lot of room for improvement.
A lot has been said about a possible Fallout 3 remaster release, though unfortunately for fans, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. In 2023, an old document revealed that Bethesda had plans for Fallout 3 and Oblivion remasters, and with the Oblivion remaster already available, the excitement surrounding Fallout 3 increased. Nevertheless, insider Nate the Hate has recently said that fans will have to wait a while before they can see a remaster of the post-apocalyptic game. Players shouldn’t hold their breath for a Fallout 3 remaster, though hints and rumors point to a potential release sometime in the future.
