Ahead of Gamescom Opening Night Live, a rumor concerning potential plans for Fallout 3 to receive a remaster from Bethesda has circulated on social media. While Bethesda has revealed parts of its plans for Gamescom, the company has not officially indicated that a remaster of Fallout 3 will be featured at the European gaming expo.
Originally released in October 2008, Fallout 3 is the first title in the long-running franchise to be played in a first-person open-world format similar to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Taking place decades after the events of Fallout 2, the third entry in the Fallout franchise puts players in the perspective of the Lone Wanderer as they explore the Capital Wasteland, the radioactive ruins of Washington, DC. Fallout 3 also received post-launch DLC, including the Pitt and Mothership Zeta expansions. Due to its gritty nature and unforgettable moments, Fallout 3 is considered an open-world title that started various trends which other games sought to emulate.

A Fallout 3 Remaster Could Be Shown During Gamescom
Though all rumors must be taken with a fine grain of salt, fans of the Fallout series are holding out hope for a new entry. As reported by ComicBook, Bethesda and Gamescom accidentally leaked a potential "TBC" heading on the latter's website just days before the annual gaming expo kicks off. In response, fans stated that this placeholder could be for a remaster of Fallout 3, though no further details have since come to light. As of this writing, Bethesda's Gamescom page has removed all mention of a "TBC" or "to be confirmed" project listing. Currently, the only two games on Bethesda's Gamescom itinerary are Doom: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Bethesda's presence at Gamescom comes as the latter title plans to launch the Order of Giants DLC on Thursday, September 4, so attendees may get a glimpse into that expansion.
The rumors of Fallout 3 getting a potential remaster were fanned following the success of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. As of July 2025, Bethesda stated that over nine million players have played Oblivion Remastered since its release in April. Given that Oblivion Remastered was a shadowdropped launch following several rounds of leaks and speculation, it stands to reason that Bethesda could attempt the same with a remaster of Fallout 3.
Bethesda's other plans for Gamescom include several Twitch streams in German from August 21 to 23. Gamescom Opening Night Live begins on August 19, at 2:00 PM Eastern, so only time will tell if the latest rumors about Fallout 3 are proven true.
