- Fans speculate the bleeding conveyor belt is a result of a simple development oversight.
A Fallout 3 has made a weird discovery in a Super Duper Mart, sharing that the conveyer belt there apparently bleeds. It's a bizarre find, but one that the Fallout 3 community is laughing over.
There's no shortage of gore in Fallout, with the series never shying away from bombastic combat. As replicated in the Fallout TV series, Bethesda's Fallout games have featured guts, dismemberment, and exploding body parts, but it's not supposed to extend to inanimate objects.
Gamer Notices Hilarious Parallel Between Fallout 3 and 4
An eagle-eyed gamer online spots a hilarious parallel between Fallout 3 and 4.
However, Fallout 3 fan and Reddit user doomboy6969420 has discovered that for some reason, the Super Duper Mart's conveyor belts bleed when shot. A screenshot shared by the fan shows the conveyor belt peppered with bullet holes, which appear to be bloody. Upon further investigation, the OP discovered that it's not limited to the conveyor belt. Apparently, the counter and register also have the same reaction to being shot. It would be odd enough for a non-flesh-and-blood automaton like Mister Handy to bleed, but a completely inanimate object clearly shouldn't.
Fallout Fans Joke About Cause of Bleeding Conveyer Belt
Fallout fans in the comments have been quick to joke about the discovery. Several have chosen to compare it to the discovery that the Fallout 3 Broken Steel DLC train is actually a hat. While not visible to the player, Bethesda apparently programmed Fallout's train in such a way that a standard NPC carries it by wearing it on their head. Given this silly prior find, several have joked that the conveyor belt is also worn on an NPC's head, and the blood pictured is from that person. Players have also discussed a number of other game development tricks that Bethesda has implemented over the years, like using NPCs as statues or mannequins, or using similar code for the Vertibirds in Fallout and dragons in Skyrim.
While the train hat is a true development shortcut, this discovery is more likely due to a simple bug. The game seems to be displaying the generic bloody bullet hole texture for the conveyor belt getting shot instead of one that doesn't have blood. Since it's a tiny detail and one that doesn't really cause any significant impact to gameplay, even if it had been discovered at some point by Bethesda, it may not have merited fixing. It's something that a Fallout 3 mod could alter fairly easily, but since fans seem to be having so much fun with it, it's likely not worth the effort to do so.
