Some Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition players are running into a nasty bug that's not letting them access the DLC content that the game comes with, and Bethesda has taken notice. Giving players access to a ton of Fallout 4 DLC is one of the biggest selling points for the Anniversary Edition, so fixing this bug is likely a top priority for the post-launch development team.

Announced in mid-October during the Fallout Day 2025 livestream event, the Anniversary Edition celebrates a full decade since Fallout 4's original release, packaging the base game with all six of its official DLC add-ons and more than 150 different pieces of content from the game's Creation Club. The Anniversary Edition was launched on November 10 for PC and current and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and it's planned for release on Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026.

Putting together a focused character build in Fallout 4 can generate some very overpowered results, something these builds excel at.

Fallout 4 Owned Content Bug is Causing Major Problems

But many things have not gone well with the launch, including the apparent presence of a bug that is causing some players to not be able to access some of the content packed with the Anniversary Edition, as some purchasers are finding that add-on content is not being recognized as "owned" on their devices. Bethesda has acknowledged this problem on its Discord through community manager Jesscapade, who has stated that the development team is working to resolve the issue and that further updates will be released as more information becomes available. While Bethesda's efforts to address the issue should be a comfort to affected players, many have reacted poorly to the news, which follows the review bombing that Fallout 4 has received on Steam in recent days.

The owned content bug is far from the only problem the latest version of Fallout 4 is facing. While Bethesda's RPGs have built up a reputation for glitches, especially around launch time, online forums, including Reddit, have been filled with messages and screenshots from disappointed fans who have been reporting a variety of unusual bugs and crashes since the Anniversary Edition was released.

Even before its release, the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition was angering some fans for a variety of reasons. Some of this criticism has come from fans who enjoy playing Fallout 4 with mods turned on, as the new edition was predicted to break a lot of popular mods that players have been using for years, particularly those reliant on the Fallout 4 Script Extender. Plenty of others expressed disappointment with the Anniversary Edition's announcement, as they were hoping Fallout Day's biggest announcement would be centered around the release of a remaster or remake of one of the series' classic games and not just a bundled re-release. Time will tell if Bethesda can improve Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition reception through future patches.
