Shortly after the release of Fallout 4, PC gamers have uncovered a whole treasure trove of ways to cheat and bypass the system. Like in previous Bethesda titles, it's possible to make the game much easier by toggling console commands, spawning items, or other related activities that players weren't intended to have.

If you're looking for a more relaxed way to enjoy Fallout 4 as a beginner, then using cheats might be an option you want to consider. Here's a guide containing some of the most useful console commands in the game.

Updated November 10, 2025 by Erik Petrovich: With the release of Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition, which includes a boatload of Creation Club addons that are now available on all platforms, players are returning to the third major first-person Fallout title en masse. Though there is plenty to do and experience in the base game and its DLCs, PC players have the unique luxury of having access to console commands. Console commands can be used to alter just about every aspect of the world and its inhabitants, from changing the size of NPCs, turning off combat AI, spawning items, resurrecting dead characters, or altering your character's build, perks, and SPECIAL attributes. This guide to the best console commands in Fallout 4 has been updated to include about a dozen more commands Fallout 4 players can use to modify their game - just be careful if you use the CAQS command, as your PC will slow down to a crawl as the game rapidly completes every quest in the game.

How To Use Cheats In Fallout 4 PC

Fallout 4 weapon

To begin, press the tilde (~) key. For those who aren't familiar with it, it is situated directly below the escape button in the top left corner of most keyboards. If that doesn't work for you, tap the apostrophe key as the command seems to differ between nationalities of your keyboard settings. Once the console is open, players will be able to manipulate the game; increasing their size and speed, spawning the best weapons, or simply completing the game at the touch of a button.

Code

Effect

Explanation

caqs

Completes every step of the main quest, automatically completing the game for you.

Be prepared for this to take a long time to complete, and be prepared for your game to slow down to minimal FPS as the game completes all quests.

Coc [location ID]

This teleports you to the specified location.

Most notably, typing "coc qasmoke" will teleport you to the Fallout 4 test room, which contains boxes with every item in the game. To leave, you must type "coc" followed by the name of the location you would like to teleport to.

Completeallobjectives [quest ID]

Completes all steps of the specified quest.

Like caqs, but for specific quests. Refer to a list of quest IDs to find the specific numbers associated with all missions in the game.

Csb

Fully resets all splatter terrain effects and all screen effects.

Use this to get rid of bullet holes, effects that cover your UI, and other similar particles.

Fov [value] [value]

Sets your FOV.

The first value dictates your camera FOV, while the second one dictates your viewmodel's distance.

Kill [insert ID]

Kills the creature with the ID you inserted.

With the console command screen open, click on a target NPC or creature, then type "kill" to automatically load its ID and kill it.

Killall

Kills every hostile NPC in the immediate area.

Every non-essential NPC or companion near you immediately dies.

Player.additem [item ID] [quantity]

Spawns a specific number of a specified item directly in your inventory.

Refer to a list of in-game item IDs to spawn specific items, including weapons, armors, Caps, Bobby Pins, and every other item you can pick up or consume. Type "0000000f" to add Caps, or "0000000a" to add Bobby Pins.

Player.addperk [perk ID]

Grants a specified perk to your character.

Does not increase your level or adjust other stats. Notably, you can get perks that you would not normally have pre-requisite levels or stats for with this.

Player.removeperk [perk ID]

Removes a specified perk from your character.

Though there is no level cap in Fallout 4 and you can theoretically pick up every perk in the game, this command can be used to remove a perk from your character, allowing you to change an early mistake into a specific build.

Player.modav [SPECIAL attribute] [number]

Boost a SPECIAL attribute of choice

Allows you to directly modify your stats, essentially allowing the ability to respec in the middle of a playthrough.

Player.placeatme [item ID]

Places an item near your character, not in your inventory.

As above, refer to in-game item ID lists to find the codes to input. When you exit console command screen, the items will appear in front of your character in the quantity specified. Notably, this also works for NPCs and objects, not just items.

Player.setav speedmult [insert number]

Multiplies your running speed by the inserted number.

Notably, this is a multiplier, not additive. So, if you insert 2 in the [insert number] section, you will move 2x faster.

Player.setlevel [number]

Boosts your level to a specified number.

Does not grant Perk Points automatically as you would normally get for leveling up.

Player.setrace [race ID]`

Changes your race to the specified race.

This will usually result in the game crashing, but it will technically let you play as a ghoul, mutant, or other humanoid NPC if it doesn't!

Player.sexchange

Changes your character's gender.

You can also select a target humanoid character to change the gender of a target NPC. Remove the "player." Portion of this command to do so.

Resurrect [insert ID]

Brings the targeted creature back to life.

With the console command screen open, click on a target dead NPC or creature, then type "resurrect" to automatically load its ID and kill it. Notably, you can use this on yourself, but it can lead to game errors.

Set timescale to [number]

Speeds or slows down time.

Lower numbers slow it down, while higher ones speed it up. Default value is 16.

Setgs fJumpHeightMin [insert number]

Modifies your jump height.

Default value is 1. Lower numbers reduce jump height, higher numbers increase jump height. This does not modify fall damage.

Setscale [1-10]

Increases the size of you or your target.

With the console command screen open, click on a target NPC or creature, then type this command to auto-populate its ID.

Showlooksmenuplayer

Opens the character creation editor.

This can be used at any time during a playthrough to modify your character's appearance and base stats. This is the only way to change the way your character looks after completing the introductory sequence.

Tai

Toggles AI on or off.

When turned off, all NPCs will stand idle, unable to move or take actions.

Tcai

Toggles combat AI.

When turned off, enemies will not attack the player.

Tcl

Toggles player collision.

Turns on noclip functionality, allowing players to fly through the air and clip through normally impassable surfaces (including the ground)

tdetect

AI will not detect you anymore.

Essentially makes you completely invisible to enemies and NPCs, who will not react to your presence or incoming attacks.

Tfc 1

Activates flycam, allowing you to get some amazing screenshots.

Similar to tcl, but allows players to see their own player model and control the third-person camera instead of physically moving around the world. Set tfc to 0 to re-enable the normal camera.

Tgm

Toggles god mode.

Become completely invincible to all forms of damage.

Tm

Toggles menus and UI on and off.

Completely removes all UI from the game until toggled back on. Notably, this also stops you from seeing the console, so you'll have to press tilde and type "tm" again blind to see your UI again.

Tmm 1

Unlocks every map marker across the entire map.

Using this command will not completely reveal the world map in Fallout 4. However, with every map marker unlocked, you will have a much easier time finding your way around the Commonwealth.

Unequipall

Removes all gear from the target.

Completely unequips all armor, weapons, and other equipment held by the target NPC.

Unlock [target ID]

Unlocks the target container or door.

To use this command easily, open up the console commands interface, then click on the object, door, or container you want to unlock. Type "unlock" then exit the command UI to access the target element and bypass the bobby pin minigame.

You can find an item or NPC's ID by clicking on them while the console is active.

As always, make sure to make back-ups of your save files before using any cheats that could potentially ruin your character. The default Fallout 4 save file location is in the My Documents folder.

Apart from being able to use cheats, PC gamers also get access to a wealth of PC-exclusive mods for Fallout 4. While most of these add user-made content to the game, some also exist to tweak difficulty settings or provide improved experiences across the board, including balancing for gunplay and survival mechanics. Such mods are great for players who want a fine-tuned Fallout 4 experience without necessarily relying on cheats.
