In Fallout 4, using workers to your advantage can take a lot of work off of you when completing tasks at your settlement. This includes harvesting food, scavenging items, and more. You can then continue with your usual activities, like completing quests while your team takes care of the settlement for you.

However, as with many things in the Fallout series, like throwing grenades in Fallout 76, you aren't exactly told how you can assign your workers to tasks. Instead, you're left wondering how exactly you can summon your workers easily. In this guide, we will show you what you need to do, whether you're playing on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.

How to Assign Workers in Fallout 4

After you've successfully set up your settlement and have it fully running in Fallout 4, you might be wondering how you can put your workers to good use. This action might seem confusing at first since the game doesn't directly tell you how to assign workers to tasks. To do this, here's what you need to do:

  • Once you're at your settlement, start by opening up the Workshop menu. You'll see a prompt for this in the top left section of your screen.
  • Now, walk up to the worker that you want to assign a task to. While near them, press the command button, which will be Enter for PC, A for Xbox, and X for PlayStation.
  • With the worker selected, now visit the task you want to assign them to, such as some crops or the scavenging station. Approach it and press the same command button, which is Enter, A, or X.

Now, you'll get a prompt saying, 'This resource is now assigned.' This means that you'll have successfully assigned your worker to a task. If you have multiple people in your settlement, you can use this method on all of them to get them to work on different projects.

If you get a prompt that says the worker cannot be assigned to the task, this means that you'll have to assign it to something else. There are different types of workers, so you can try and assign them to another task to get them up and running.
