Summary

  • The 5th Column is a cult-like faction in Fallout: London, led by Eve Varney and seeking to overthrow the current establishment.
  • The 5th Column believes that the only way to create change is through destruction and wants to build a new society in their leader's image.
  • The 5th Column's greatest enemies are the Gentry, the current rulers of London, and they are gaining support among the lower classes in their populist movement.

Among the many brand-new factions created for the Fallout 4 mod, Fallout: London, is one in particular that should offer players a very interesting story to unfold. They are the 5th Column, a group seeking to upset the current establishment led by the Gentry. Each faction has its reason for wanting a change in government for the post-apocalyptic city of London, and it will most likely be on players to determine which group is in the right. As in Fallout games of the mainline series, including the base game for Fallout 4, the power should be in the hands of the player to sway the future of this conflict.

Fallout: London is still in active development, but progress seems to be moving along very well. The independent team of developers is working on a volunteer basis, in their spare time. Truly a work of passion, Fallout: London is easily one of the most impressive and ambitious mods for Fallout 4. The team shares regular videos on the official website of the game and occasionally showcases concept art and other media. With a unique lore, game design, enemies, and more, Fallout: London should be an experience worth checking out.

Fallout: London's Cult-Like Faction

The 5th Column, Explained

The 5th Column has an unquestioned loyalty to their leader, Eve Varney. Holding dear to the memory of their founder, Eve leads the 5th Column toward an uprising in London. The 5th Column is an almost cult-like faction that is as dangerous as they are mysterious, in the same way that many factions in the Fallout universe are. They will fight for their vision to become a reality, no matter who it hurts or what it destroys.

Radicals in every sense of the word, The 5th Column sees the only solution for a better tomorrow is to burn down the currently established society and build a new one from the ashes. Of course, the new society built by the 5th Column will be in the image of their leader, Eve. In some ways, the 5th Column seems to favor the idea of the war that brought the apocalypse in the Fallout lore. As they see no other way to create change than to destroy without mercy.

Fallout: London's Faction War

Many of the factions in Fallout: London have vastly opposing views that will no doubt incite conflict among them. The greatest enemies of the 5th Column are the current monarchs, the Gentry. The 5th Column despise the way the Gentry rule and believe they could do much better. The 5th Column gathers its strength by appealing to the citizens of Fallout, trying to incite outrage against the high and mighty royal flare that the Gentry possesses.

The 5th Column is described as initiating a populist movement against the Gentry. By the time of Fallout: London, this movement is gaining some solid ground among the lower order of the city. The members of the 5th Column are distinguished by all-black outfits, occasionally donning masks or other uniforms, though it seems other citizens who follow them may not always be dressed the same. Their nearly religious following and belief in a new world order make them a faction to be wary of, claiming to brutally crush any who stand in the 5th Column's way. As Fallout: London's most extremist group, players should take care when dealing with them when this mod is made playable.
