Great Switch Games To Play If You Like Fallout

For Fallout fans looking to scratch that itch on the Nintendo Switch, these games should be right up your alley.

Updated on May 16, 2024 by Rhenn Taguiam: Fans of the Fallout series might be surprised that much of the television media’s events actually take place just a decade after the events of Fallout 4 - making the game’s events more important than players realize. Thankfully, the game remains as one of Bethesda’s hit titles, majorly due to its compelling open world experience and especially more so for the depth of its lore. In fact, fans who want to appreciate Fallout 4 further should probably consider pursuing the game’s rarest items, of which must-haves include a large stuffed animal, a large variation of a bottle, leggings accessible only by Power Armor, a rare tattered upper body wear, and a unique pair of goggles.

25 Road Goggles

Ordinary Eyewear With Extremely Specific Spawn Locations

Road Goggles

Type

Headwear

Location

Zoe, Ezra Parker’s Room (Vault 118), Pillars of the Community Cultists (Charles View Ampitheater)

Among rare items that players can find in Fallout 4 gameplay, the Road Goggles aren’t as limited as they seem - unless players refuse to kill the few people that drop them. Stylized as tinted aviator goggles, players can wear the Road Goggles and equip them with other headwear to improve their survivor’s look. Given it only provides a measly +1 Intelligence upon being equipped, it’s less of a must-have and more of a novelty to possess.

What makes the Road Goggles such a worthy acquisition is the thrill in the process of getting it in the first place. The item itself is a rare drop among cultists of Pillars of the Community specifically located in the Charles View Ampitheater. The Road Goggles may even be found in Ezra Parker’s room in Vault 118, provided players have the Far Harbor DLC. Lastly, killing Zoe during the Mechanical Menace can get players the Road Googles.

24 Large Teddy Bear

A Rare Big Variant Of A Common Toy

Large Teddy Bear

Type

Junk

Location

Fort Hagen Hangar, Broken Bus (southeast of WRVR Broadcast Station)

A Teddy Bear alone is a common sight in Fallout gameplay - a riveting reminder of lost innocence in the never-ending war of the series. However, among the many Teddy Bears players can locate in their playthrough, there’s only one Large Teddy Bear in Fallout 4.

Such a Large Teddy Bear is seen in Fort Hagen Hangar. Upon seeing the Large Teddy Bear, it’s made out to be “reading” a book to a smaller Teddy Bear inside a crate. Based on the positioning of the objects around it, the location of the crate seems like a kid’s room. This Large Teddy Bear is considerably much larger than a similarly-big Teddy Bear in a broken bus near the WRVR Broadcast Station. Located specifically past the bridge on the station’s southeast, this Teddy Bear wears a captain’s hat and is positioned to be “driving” the bus. Placing the Large Teddy Bear in the inventory shrinks its size, although it may be “carried” when it’s put out of the inventory.

23 Giant Vim Bottle

Found Right Where They’re Made

Vim Bottle

Type

Junk

Location

Vim! Pop Factory

As though positioned as a rival to the ever-popular Nuka-Cola in Fallout lore, Vim is another softdrinks brand popular in the pre-war atompunk world of the franchise. Its consumable nature means there’s quite a lot of Vim Bottles scattered all over Fallout 4, but among those items, only one is oversized. This Giant Vim Bottle is located on the lobby of the Vim! Pop Factory, specifically close to the fountain.

Picking up the Giant Vim Bottle isn’t anything special, as it stacks with the other Vim Bottles in the player’s inventory. Due to its novelty, it’s best left alone in its original home, as though it can become a testament to the attempt of Vim! Pop Incorporated to rise to the familiar glory of Nuka-Cola.

22 Tattered Field Jacket

Stylish Post-Apocalyptic Wear With Very Low Drop Rate

Tattered Field Jacket

Type

Outfit

Location

Ken Standish (Jamaica Plain)

It’s not all the time that a game like Fallout 4 offers a piece of armor exclusive to an NPC, and such a rare occasion is present with the Tattered Field Jacket. This white on brown overalls can complete a cut Raider Outfit in the game, especially when worn with the Gas Mask and a Wrapped Cap. It only provides 1 Damage Resistance, making it not-so-advisable as a defensive armor.

The item can only be found in one location: the body of Ken Standish is wearing it. He can be found as a deceased corpse in Jamaica Plain beside his wife, Tanya Standish. Unlike Ken who has the Tattered Field Jacket as a special costume, Tanya wears a random Raider outfit.

21 Freefall Legs

Only Accessible Via Power Armor Jet Pack

Freefall Legs

Type

Combat Armor

Location

Mass Fusion Building

Among the rarest items in Fallout 4 gameplay, the Freefall Legs is perhaps the most engaging to acquire. In the game’s lore, its inventor Jack Rockford was inspired by the Power Armor’s shock absorption system and decided to apply similar principles in a less bulky form factor. Unfortunately for Jack, he forgot the keys to the safe where he kept the Freefall Legs and is currently a corpse by the time players find him.

Fallout 76: What Is Max Level? (& Tips To Get There Quickly)

Reaching max level in Fallout 76 is a bit of a process. Here's everything you need to know in order to do it.

The only way to reach Freefall Legs is to go to the Mass Fusion Building. There’s a room near the top part of the building, located inside its premises. Unless players are wearing a Power Armor with a Jetpack, this area is normally inaccessible. Abusing the controls that enable players to release the jump button just as they get boosted should propel them twice as high to reach the area. Stats-wise, the Freefall Legs provide 10-18 Damage Resistance and 8-16 Energy Resistance. Its most notable quality is its prevention of falling damage, potentially encouraging players to engage in jumping shenanigans.

20 Leopard Print Bandana

Extremely Random Drop

Fallout 4 Leopard Print Bandana

Type

Location

Rare Drop

There's actually an impressiveselection of bandanas and face covers available for the style-oriented raiders and road warriors of Fallout 4. Players could go with red, blue, skull-printed, military drab... The list goes on. However, the truly fashionable shouldn't settle for anything less than leopard print.

Bandanas are common enough, but the leopard print variety is particularly prized as a trophy. Many players report going hundreds upon hundreds of gameplay hours without encountering one. They randomly spawn on dogs and settlers, so attempting to farm any location spawning hostile guard dogs or setting up a "settler farm" are popular methods of trying to snag one.

19 HalluciGen Gas Grenade

Only Nine Can Be Crafted In The Game World

Fallout 4 Gas Grenade
Fallout 4 Gas Grenade

Type

Grenade

Location

HalluciGen, Inc.

HalluciGen Gas Grenades are craftable, but one of the necessary component is sorely limited: the HalluciGen gas canisters. In fact, there are only nine of them in total. They're all located at the HalluciGen, Incorporated building.

What's worse, these canisters will break down into crafting materials, meaning that they're easily salvaged before the player realizes what else they can be used for. That's an awful shame, considering how fun these things can be. They basically cause anything within the area of the effect to go berserk, attacking anything nearby - friend and foe alike.

18 Poisoned Wine

Looks Like A Way To Go Out Of The Great War

Fallout 4 Boylston Club
Fallout 4 Boylston Club

Type

Alcoholic Beverage

Location

Boylston Club

It's difficult to fathom why the Sole Survivor might need a few bottles of Poisoned Wine, but they're out there if anyone want them for their collection. Players might not want to use them as a conversation piece though, because the story behind them is pretty morbid.

The members of the upscale Boylston Club (where these bottles are found) were unwilling to go on in the post-war world, so they met up for one final toast one week after the bombs fell. Hopefully, it was at least a decent vintage.

17 Amontillado Bottle

One Location References The Author That Popularized The Wine

Amontillado Bottle

Type

Junk Item

Location

Fort Independence

Unlike other rare items in Fallout gameplay, the Amontillado Bottle isn’t necessarily “scarce” compared to single-copy items in the game. After all, there are four Amontillado Bottles in Fallout 4, with three more copies found once players get the “Far Harbor” add-on. However, where the Amontillado Bottle shines as a rare item is its primary location.

When players go to the Castle Tunnels of Fort Independence, they can find a bottle of wine near the corpse of General McGann, who was at this point shackled inside the wall, with “P. Edgar” written on it. This is a reference to “The Cask of Amontillado,” a short story of Edgar Allan Poe about a man who exacts revenge on another man who insulted him by burying him inside the wall of a wine cellar. It seems General McGann is killed in the same way, as Fallout has a short story that says the General was buried in the wall for killing a favored officer.

16 Perfectly Preserved Pie

Use The Port-A-Diner In A Specific Way

Fallout 4 Pie
Fallout 4 Pie

Type

Consumable Item

Location

The Mechanist’s Lair, Cappy’s Cafe, Fizzytop Mountain

The Perfectly Preserved Pie, or "PPP" as it'll be referred to for the rest of this entry, is something of a legend in Fallout 4. Such is its mythical status that some would be tempted to label it unattainable. Rest assured, though, those suspiciously perfect looking slices of pie jammed inside those bedeviled Port-A-Diners are legitimately obtainable.

These perks are better off being dismissed entirely when scouring the Nevada deserts.

There's actually a mathematical formula in play every time the Sole Survivor uses the Port-A-Diner, which determines the likelihood of successfully retrieving the PPP. Luck impacts the odds, and the chance of success increases slightly with every failed attempt. For context, a player with ten Luck stands a two percent chance of getting it on the first try. It may take hundreds of attempts, but patience is a rewarding virtue here.
