Speak of the Devil is one of the many sidequests in Fallout 4, but unlike the vast majority of the ones in the game, this was originally a part of the Creation Club, which was then officially adopted as part of the game's Next-Gen update. Here, players will be investigating traces of Enclave members in Boston, and upon completion, you'll get one of the best suits of Power Armor Fallout 4 has to offer. Here's a step-by-step guide covering everything you need to do in this quest.
Fallout 4: What's the Point of No Return for Each Faction?
Those hoping to see every Fallout 4 ending in a single playthrough will need to know the point of no return for each of the game's factions.
How to Start Speak of the Devil in Fallout 4
This sidequest will automatically get added to your log the moment you step out of Vault 111. If you have an existing save file that you haven't touched in a while, then Speak of the Devil will also get automatically added to your quests list along with a few other things.
The quest itself isn't that hard, but we do recommend leveling and gearing up a bit before attempting it. Much of it takes place in the center of the map, which is very dangerous for a low-level character.
Investigate Wattz Consumer Electronics
Your first objective is to go to Wattz Consumer Electronics near the Cambridge area. Inside, your quest marker will lead you to a poster of the Black Devil — specifically, you're here for Connie's Note right in front of the poster. Take the note to officially kick off the quest, and get ready for a trip across the wasteland.
Investigate 0MC-810 Relay Tower
Your next stop is the 0MC-810 Relay Tower, which is just a short hike to the northeast of Wattz Consumer Electronics. It's near the big Super Mutant camp at West Everett Estates — the big guys here aren't as friendly as Strong, so if you don't want to tussle with them, consider going the long way around.
Once you make it to the Relay Tower, you'll be greeted by a pair of hostile Enclave members. Take them out, then follow your quest marker to the body of a man named Richie. Read his note, then take the music tape from his corpse, then load the tape to the nearby terminal. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen, then once you're done loading the music, move on to the next stop.
Investigate the BADTFL Office
The BADTFL Office is to the east of Wattz Consumer Electronics. Fast travel back to the store, then follow the road until you make it to your destination. There's going to be some Raiders inside, but if you're properly built and geared up, they shouldn't pose that much of a problem.
Follow the quest marker until you reach an office with Connie's body on a desk. Here, you'll find the FM 52.7 Music Catalogue, which you'll need to decrypt to progress the quest. To do so, you'll need to do one of the following:
- Break the encryption with the Hacker 3 perk
- Complete a hacking minigame (if you have at least Hacker 1)
- Check the small hole in the wall behind Connie's corpse for a Cigarette Paper item
Once you decrypt the catalogue, head back outside.
Investigate 0SC-527 Relay Tower
For the next step, you need to take the decrypted music catalogue to another Relay Tower. This time, you need to go south of Diamond City, but you're going to be doing the same thing you did at the previous Relay Tower. Clear enemies, raise the dish, then load the music catalogue into the terminal.
Investigate Boston Police Rationing Site
If you went to the Relay Tower from Diamond City, you probably would have passed by the Boston Police Rationing Site. It's the train depot directly south of Diamond City's entrance. The site's main door is barred from the inside, and to get in, you need to enter from the upper window at the opposite side of the door. You can reach that window by using the nearby cargo containers on the train and the big forklift near the building as platforms.
Once you're inside, head to the Utility Tunnels. Follow the linear path while clearing out the enemies along the way, and you'll eventually reach a secret hideout that once belonged to an Enclave deserter. All you need to do is interact with the radio there, and once you do, the quest will be completed. However, we're not quite done yet.
Behind the radio is a full suit of X-02 Power Armor, one of the best armor sets in Fallout 4. There should be a few Fusion Cores inside the tunnels, so you won't have to worry about just leaving this beautiful set of equipment behind.
Before you leave, interact with the terminal behind the Power Armor suit. Here, you can read about how the armor's former owner was part of an Enclave spec ops unit, and how they assumed the identity of the Black Devil to help the people of the Commonwealth. More importantly, you'll be presented with a choice here.
Should You Disable or Restore Enclave Radio Signals?
The Black Devil's final request was to shut off all Enclave Radio Signals, and if you choose to oblige, you'll unlock a nearby safe containing the Devil's Inferno mod for the X-02. This mod is a suped-up version of the Tesla Coils mod, which not only damages nearby enemies passively, but it also increases your movement speed and recharges your Action Points when you take damage. This mod is for the X-02's torso slot, and it can be combined with Tesla Bracers.
On the other hand, if you choose to let the Enclave transmissions continue, you'll get access to the Enclave Radio Station, which plays the patriotic music you've been hearing from the radios near the relay towers you visited. You won't be able to get the free Devil's Inferno mod if you do this, though.
In any case, you'll get ambushed by a bunch of Enclave members after you make your decision. These guys aren't that tough, and if you step into the X-02 suit, you can just swat them away without breaking a sweat.
If you chose to get the free Devil's Inferno, don't forget to equip it using one of the Power Armor stations inside the hideout.
