Dogmeat, a German Shepherd, is a non-playable character and companion of the Sole Survivor in Fallout 4. He can track a human's scent for miles and is extremely loyal to those he accompanies despite not having an owner. He is the only genuinely neutral companion in the game and helps the player and other NPCs complete quests.

However, Dogmeat can go missing during these quests or ignore your request to send him to a specific location. If this happens, there are a few things you can do to find him. Here is what you should do if you can't find Dogmeat in Fallout 4 to help you quickly reunite with your furry companion!

What to Do When You Can't Find Dogmeat in Fallout 4

Using the Vault-Tec Population Management System from the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC to find Dogmeat in Fallout 4
Vault-Tec Workshop DLC Fallout 4

If you have the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC, you can use the Vault-Tec Population Management System in the Power, Miscellaneous section of the settlement build system to locate your settlers. This tool will put a side quest marker on your map, making it a breeze to find Dogmeat. After you find him, you can return to the console to disable the tracker.

However, if you don't have the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC, the next best place to look for him is where you first found him, at the Red Rocket gas station just outside Sanctuary. If he's not there, then you should check any doghouses in your settlements. Unfortunately, if you have multiple dog houses, it may be time-consuming to check each one. Instead, you can scrap all of them but one, and that will force him to go to the remaining doghouse.

Feature

If you cannot find Dogmeat at the Red Rock gas station or any dog houses in your settlements, you should consider checking the entrance of Fort Hagen. Dogmeat will stay at this location because once you enter Fort Hagen, he will remain at the entrance and won't leave, regardless of where you tell him to go, because the game wants you to complete the main quest for Kellogg, which starts when you first enter this area. If you have already finished this quest, you can ask him to follow you again, and he should comply.

Using the Fallout 4 Cheat Terminal to Modify the Sole Survivor's SPECIAL stats.

If all else fails and you are playing on PC, you can use the console to teleport Dogmeat to your location by following the following steps:

  1. Open the console by pressing the Tilde (~) key
  2. Type "prid 1d162"
  3. Then type "moveto player"

The game will automatically teleport Dogmeat to your location in Fallout 4, regardless of where he is or why he got lost.
