It's been almost 10 years since the Fallout franchise brought fans a fresh mainline entry, and as the wait for the next game continues, many are wondering if an announcement is imminent. Fallout has still maintained a strong presence in the industry, though. Fallout 76 has come a long way since its initial rocky launch, while Amazon Prime's live-action series has proven to be a hit.
However, the lack of Fallout 5 news has a lot of longtime fans eager for even a crumb of information. After Bethesda launched Starfield back in 2023, all eyes have been on The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5. There is at least evidence of the former's existence, but not much. The wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 has been just as grueling, and if Fallout 5 follows in its fellow Bethesda title's footsteps, there are several pros and cons to consider.
Fallout Season 2 Is Coming Sooner Than Expected With Even More Good News For the Series
Fallout Season 2's release month has been announced, and the series also received another very positive update.
Fallout 5 Could Share a Similar Announcement to The Elder Scrolls 6
- The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced at E3 back in 2018.
- The short 30-second trailer shows a vast landscape, followed by the game's logo fading into view.
The Pros of Fallout 5's Announcement Taking Note of TES6
One of the biggest upsides of Bethesda repeating the same announcement approach with Fallout 5 is that it's at least confirmation that the game is in development. The trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 may be incredibly short, but it still let fans of the franchise know that the game is actively being worked on. While it's believed that Fallout 5 will happen, with Todd Howard even mentioning the project in the past, Bethesda has yet to actually confirm the game as a reality.
Dropping a trailer that is similar to The Elder Scrolls 6 could also offer hints regarding the game's setting. A lot of fans have theorized that The Elder Scrolls 6 takes place in Hammerfell, and while this hasn't been officially confirmed, the trailer has led many to believe this. Theoretically, a similar trailer for Fallout 5 could potentially make it easier to figure out the game's location. With its American setting and each wasteland having its own unique identity, Fallout fans may have a clearer idea of where the next chapter takes place.
The Cons of Fallout 5 Taking The Elder Scrolls 6 Route
Giving the Fallout 5 trailer the same treatment as The Elder Scrolls 6 has a clear issue. Just because a trailer has been revealed doesn't mean that the wait is over. It's been seven years since The Elder Scrolls 6's trailer, and in that time, Bethesda hasn't offered any other substantial updates. At that rate, if Bethesda revealed a trailer this year, Fallout 5 may not be ready until 2032, and that's a wild thought.
The Elder Scrolls fan base has been hoping year after year for fresh news, with nothing to actually show for it. That's not exactly a fun camp to be in, so Fallout 5 may be better off waiting until a year or two away from launch to reveal its first trailer in order to generate hype without leaving fans in the dark.
Season 2 of the Fallout TV series is set to premiere in December 2025.

After Fresh TES6 News, a Fallout 5 Announcement Could Be Around the Corner
- An Xbox Games Showcase is scheduled to premiere on June 8.
- The event promises announcements and updates for upcoming games.
There's no way to know for sure, but if Bethesda is gearing up for any big announcements, the Xbox Games Showcase could be one of the best stages to make such a reveal. Right now, it's highly unlikely that The Elder Scrolls 6 will release within the year, but when the game finally does launch, Bethesda will hopefully shed some light on Fallout 5's status.
