Summary

  • Some Fallout 76 players have recently been calling for Bethesda to add a build mode undo command.
  • Similar requests have been sporadically surfacing online since at least 2020.
  • Bethesda recently suggested it will add new Fallout 76 build mode features sometime in 2024.

Some Fallout 76 players have recently banded together to call for Bethesda to add an undo command to the game's build mode. While the fandom often asks for changes to the game, this particular request concerns one aspect of Fallout 76 that the developer itself recently suggested may undergo some revisions in the near future.

Building has been an integral part of Bethesda's live-service RPG ever since its troubled launch in late 2018. While the developer occasionally revised this system with some minor quality-of-life improvements and major content additions in the vein of Fallout 76 Shelters, the underlying mechanics of creating C.A.M.P.s remain largely unchanged six years later.

Frustrated Fallout 76 Players Call For Build Mode Undo Option

Dissatisfied with this state of affairs, a vocal section of the Fallout 76 fandom has recently called for Bethesda to add an undo option to the RPG's building interface. The plea originated from Reddit user SupremeSinner, who said they lost "two weeks worth of work" after accidentally scrapping a part of their C.A.M.P. Foundation that was impossible to rebuild without tearing down a significant chunk of their base. The request promptly ended up on the front page of the game's most populous subreddit, indicating that many players are on board with the idea.

Bethesda Recently Hinted At New Fallout 76 Build Mode Features

The plea itself is far from novel, as similar demands have been surfacing online since at least mid-2020. And while there is currently no indication that Bethesda may consider fulfilling this request, the developer did recently hint at some build mode changes being on the horizon. Specifically, its latest year-in-review blog post that reflected on the Fallout 76 2023 changes revealed that the studio is planning a number of "features and improvements" catering to "builders and adventurers alike." As far as builder-specific benefits mentioned in the teaser are concerned, the developer has yet to make good on that promise.

Even if major build mode features are on the horizon, there is no guarantee that an undo command will actually be one of them. But between the late 2023 teaser and the fact that a build mode undo option has long been requested by the fandom, such a quality-of-life addition is not completely out of the question.

Ultimately, even if the option doesn't arrive in 2024, there's always next year. With the Fallout 76 player count exploding since the release of the Fallout TV show in April, Bethesda currently appears more committed than ever to supporting the game in the long term.
