Fallout 76 will soon address the issue of Milepost Zero caravans getting stuck. However, Bethesda's fix for the problem that has been plaguing Fallout 76 players for the past year is largely a band-aid solution.
Brahmin caravan escort missions were added to the popular live-service game as part of Fallout 76 Season 18, which debuted in early September 2024. The repeatable activity was bugged from day one, with players encountering issues stemming from both flawed pathfinding logic—leading to Brahmins occasionally running in circles, though usually not indefinitely—and collision bugs causing caravans to get stuck.
New Fallout 76 Update Will Address Stuck Caravan Bug—Indirectly
Following nearly a year's worth of player complaints, Bethesda is finally getting around to addressing the long-standing issue, if only indirectly. The next big update for the game that's currently in testing on the Fallout 76 Public Test Server includes a caravan mission redesign that cuts the event's timer from 30 to 7 minutes, a 76% reduction. With the maximum duration now three-quarters shorter, instances of stuck caravans are expected to waste less of players' time.
While caravans will still need to survive for seven minutes in order for the event to be successfully completed, that's likely to be a non-issue for Brahmin that get stuck, as enemies rarely keep spawning when that happens in the current version of the game. Bethesda did not officially elaborate on its decision to treat the symptoms of the caravan mission bugs rather than their cause. That notwithstanding, the band-aid nature of its planned fixes suggests that the root of the issues is too fundamental for the developer to resolve with the resources currently allocated to the game's continued support.
Fallout 76 Caravan Missions Are Also Becoming Less Grindy
Given how much controversy Fallout 76's caravan missions have stirred up to date, the upcoming update—as roundabout as its mission fix may be—is going to offer a potentially welcome change for players dissatisfied with Milepost Zero's core activity. The patch is also set to rebalance reward drops, granting the same number of Supplies to all players who complete a caravan, regardless of who initiated the event. Previously, the caravan owner received substantially more rewards than other participants, to the point that playing a support role was more of a novelty activity than something anyone serious about grinding the event would consider doing long-term.
When Are Fallout 76 Milepost Zero Changes Rolling Out?
The caravan mission redesign has been in testing on the PTS server since July 11. Most of the experimental changes currently in beta are planned to hit the stable channel as part of the game's next major update, which will kick off Fallout 76 Season 22. Called Appalachian Modern Living, the next seasonal content drop is expected to materialize sometime in September 2025.
