Lots of new quests were brought into Fallout 76 with the Atlantic City Part 2 update. For the first time, players can explore the various regions of Atlantic City outside of expeditions. This has given players the chance to venture outside of Appalachia with no restraints for the very first time.

Fallout 76: How to Get to Atlantic City

Atlantic City is the second expedition released by Bethesda, but traveling there can be confusing. Here's how to get to Atlantic City in Fallout 76.

There's a lot to see and even more to do. From hidden clown Easter eggs to helping out former gang leaders, players have a lot to sink their teeth into in Atlantic City. One of those questlines is called Custodial Compulsions. This article will help guide players through the quest.

How To Activate Custodial Compulsions

Most players will be familiar with the Whitespring Refuge as it is where they unlock the ability to head out on expeditions. But for those who don't know, it is a part of the Whitespring Resort.

Head inside and go up to Jeremiah Hopkins. He can be found in the room behind the bar, standing under a large Atlantic City sign. Just to the right of him, there are some posters on the wall. Check out the posters; one of them will start Custodial Compulsions.

It is important to note that players will need to have completed a couple of other Atlantic City quests for this one to become available.

This is Where The Fun Starts

Talking To Sam in Fallout 76

Upon arriving in Atlantic City, meet with Saltwater Sam. He is in need of some help. He will ask the player to follow him to Showman's Pier as there has been an incident that needs tending to.

He doesn't like to give up information. The only thing that he says is that sometimes things go wrong during events held by the Showmen. When prompted, he said that he hired someone from outside of Atlantic City as they would have no preconceived notions about him.

Upon entering Showman's Pier and speaking to Sam, the player will be asked what type of cleaning they prefer. Whatever the player chooses, the outcome is the same. They will need to clean up the trash, wipe up blood, and pick up stage props.

There is also an optional task that players can do. It is possible for players to find out what happened. To cut a long story short, somebody replaced a prop gun with a real gun at a dress rehearsal for an upcoming show. This ended in death.

After cleaning up all the mess, Sam will instruct the player to take a 'suspicious trunk' and dump it in the ocean. In the conversation, he seems to suggest that there may be human body parts inside the trunk. The trunk has bloody scratch marks on it.

Meet The Client

After the trunk has been thrown into the ocean, Sam will guide the player to the 'client'. Sam will lead the player down a dark alley next to a dumpster. If the player has 4 or more perception, they can try to push for answers as it seems like Sam may turn and try to kill the player.

But there is actually a client. When she shows up, the player will be asked to wait in a back room while some paperwork is filled out. So, the player doesn't need to worry about getting into a firefight just yet.

Once again, those with a perception higher than 4 will be able to question Sam about the whole situation. However, they won't get much information out of Sam.

Enter The Back Room

A Tense Moment

Stratton Held Hostage in Fallout 76

Once inside, the player will see a man tied up. His name is Stratton. He's a hostage. He asks for help. After talking to Stratton, the truth comes out.

Stratton was kidnapped by Sam and the client. During the conversation, Sam enters the room and asks the player to kill Stratton. Here, the player is faced with three choices:

  1. Take Payment And Leave
  2. Kill The Victim (Optional)
  3. Kill Sam (Optional)

It turns out that Sam is a murderer. Most players will want to kill Sam. This is the better option. Unfortunately, like a lot of the quests in Fallout 76, the decision that the player makes doesn't really have much of an effect on things.

Whatever choice the player makes, they will still get their payment for completing the quest. The rewards are as follows:

  • 200 Caps
  • Plan: Suspicious Trunk
  • Plan: Saltwater Taffy Outfit
  • A Random Plan
  • A Random Selection Of Meds And Consumables
  • XP
