In Fallout 76, Flux is an unstable substance extracted from radiative Flora that grows in Blast Zones. Flux comes in five color-coded forms: Cobalt (Blue), Crimson (Red), Fluorescent (Orange), Violet (Purple), and Yellowcake (Yellow). Crafting-wise, Fluxes are mainly used in Ultracite Ammo and Mutation Serums, but they’re also popular trading items.

What makes Flux a scarce item, though, is its conditional spawn. The radiated Flora for Flux can only be found in nuked zones, and as Fallout 76 veterans know, nuking Appalachia is not an easy task. However, players can overcome this challenge and farm Flux in all its forms with little to no hassle.

The Scorched Earth Event aside, the only realistic way to farm Flux is by launching a nuke on a specific part of Appalachia and harvesting the radiated plants that will grow there.

  • Get a Nuclear Keycard.
  • Launch a nuke to create a Blast Zone.
  • Wear a protective suit (Power Armor, Hazmat, etc.)
  • Enter the radiated nuked area.
  • Collect the glowing Flora to get Flux.

Each glowing Flora produces a specific type of Flux that is implied by its color. Players can use the following table to see which plant gives what:

Flux Type

Flora

Cobalt

  • Wild Corn
  • Wild Mutfruit
  • Bloodleaf
  • Glowing Resin
  • Silt Bean
  • Firecracker Berry
  • Starlight Creeper

Crimson

  • Brain Fungus
  • Blight
  • Aster
  • Firecap
  • Mothman Eggs
  • Wild Ground Blossom
  • Cranberries

Fluorescent

  • Glowing Fungus
  • Rhododendron Flower
  • Thistle

Violet

  • Mutated Fern
  • Snaptail Reed
  • Wild Razorgrain
  • Wild Tato Blossom
  • Wild Tarberry
  • Strangler Pod
  • Ginseng Root
  • Giant Pitcher Plant

Yellowcake

  • Ash Rose
  • Carrot Flower
  • Wild Blackberry
  • Bleach Dogwood
  • Soot flower
  • Wild Melon Blossom

Blast Zones only last for three hours per server. With this in mind, players should farm as much Flux as possible in this time frame, or else the radiative Flora will despawn.

The Best Locations to Farm Flux in Fallout 76

Central Appalachia is the best place to farm Yellowcake and Fluorescent Flux, while the northern parts are the most lucrative locations for Cobalt and Violet Flux. For Crimson Flux, however, southwestern Appalachia is a better farming spot.

Here are the best locations to nuke for Flux farming:

  • Palace of the Winding Path
  • Harpers Ferry
  • The Whitespring Resort
  • Fissure Site Prime
  • Morgantown

Nuking Fissure Site Prim initiates the Scorched Earth mission, which, upon completion, grants Stabilized Flux as a reward. By creating a Blast Zone in this area, players can double their Flux farming outcome.

Since farming Flux requires entering a radiated Blast Zone, What Rads is the ideal Legendary Perk to have. Players are also advised to equip the Green Thumb Perk Card to double their Flora harvest. When planning for an extensive farm, having the Good with Salt Perk Card is also crucial, as it stops the gathered Flux from going bad and turning into Inert Flux.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
