Fallout 76’s Ghoul Within and Season 20 update introduced a variety of new build crafting tools, mainly for players who transform their character into a Ghoul, but there are also new buildcrafting tools and balancing changes introduced in this update that affect human builds as well. Among some of the new features in Fallout 76 are the fresh Onslaught mechanics, Perk Cards, and changes to the Furious one-star legendary weapon mod.

Previously, the Furious legendary weapon mod in Fallout 76 was generally considered underwhelming compared to the meta legendary weapon mods in Fallout 76. However, for players who can effectively utilize the new Onslaught mechanics, the newly reworked Furious legendary mod can potentially compete with or outperform the existing meta, so players may want to give this legendary mod a second chance and try out a new build in Fallout 76.

A new buff for Power Armor anticipated for Fallout 76’s Season 20 and Ghoul Within update has the potential to shake up the meta for endgame builds.

Fallout 76’s New Furious Legendary Mod Changes and Onslaught Mechanics Explained

What is Onslaught in Fallout 76?

Once players equip a weapon with the Furious legendary mod or one of the new Onslaught Perk Cards in Fallout 76’s Ghoul Within and Season 20 update, they can begin to accumulate Onslaught stacks. Depending on which Perk Cards players equip, this will affect how players gain Onslaught stacks, and what kind of buffs players will receive from their Onslaught stacks.

Overall, a combination of Onslaught Perk Cards and a weapon with the Furious legendary mod equipped will allow players to significantly increase their weapons’ performances based on their amount of Onslaught stacks accumulated. With a little investment, the new Onslaught mechanics can add value to any existing builds, but with proper investment, an Onslaught build can potentially compete with the Bloodied-Unyielding meta, offering a new endgame-viable playstyle for both humans and Ghoul builds in Fallout 76.

Some of the new Onslaught Perk Cards were pre-existing Perk Cards that have been reworked.

What is Reverse Onslaught in Fallout 76?

With some of the new Perk Cards in Fallout 76, players can utilize what the community has unofficially named “Reverse Onslaught.” Instead of generating Onslaught stacks by attacking enemies, like the Furious legendary weapon mod and most of the Onslaught-related Perk Cards now do, specifically equipping the Gunslinger Master Perk Card will allow players to passively generate one Onslaught stack every second. With Reverse Onslaught, players’ Onslaught stacks will no longer decay over time, but they will be consumed when attacking an enemy.

In general, Reverse Onslaught is recommended for semi-automatic weapons or non-automatic melee weapons, because the time between consecutive attacks will allow players to accumulate more Onslaught stacks compared to faster-firing weapons.

Fallout 76’s Furious Legendary Mod Now Requires Onslaught Stacks to Work

Originally, the Furious legendary weapon mod provided increased damage for consecutive attacks on the same enemy. As of the Ghoul Within and Season 20 update, Furious now provides increased damage specifically based on how many Onslaught stacks the player has at the time of attacking. For every stack of Onslaught, the Furious legendary weapon mod will now provide +5% additional damage, while also increasing players’ Onslaught stack limit by 9.

With the former version of this legendary mod, Furious’ damage boost used to be capped at 45% additional damage. However, with the maximum Onslaught stacks currently being 30 stacks, Furious can now provide up to 150% increased damage for players who utilize a full Onslaught build in Fallout 76, using the new Perk Cards combined with the Furious mod.
