Fallout 76's Wastelanders update has brought a brand new questline to Bethesda's multiplayer RPG, and it begins by speaking with an NPC named Duchess who is located at the Wayward. In the early stages of this Wastelanders questline, players will find themselves inside of the Gauley Mine, and here they may encounter a door that can only be opened with a keycard. Indeed the purpose of this guide is to provide the location of this Gauley Mine keycard in FO76.
To put things simply, players that wish to obtain the Gauley Mine ID card in Fallout 76 should just continue to advance through the Wastelanders storyline, as they will receive it in a subsequent quest called The Elusive Crane. This means that fans will not be able to use F076's Gauley Mine ID card reader on their first visit to the location, despite the fact that it is possible to unlock the cage that surrounds it.
Updated September 1st, 2021 by Russ Boswell: Fallout 76 continues to grow and evolve, regardless of its less-than-stellar launch. Dedicated fans of the series have a lot to look forward to if developers continue to give attention to the open-world multiplayer adventure. Part of the charm of this journey is the storyline that new vault dwellers can progress through. Although it's mandatory (from a story perspective) to find and receive the Gauley Mine ID card, it can be difficult for some players to locate the code needed to open the cage surrounding it. To better help new players, this guide has been updated.
The Gauley Mine Code
For those players that may not have gotten to the point of using the Gauley Mine keycard and are instead interested in learning how to unlock the aforementioned cage, that is done by using the Gauley Mine code in Fallout 76. This code can be found on a bulletin board directly across from the cage, and the door will be opened once the code has been entered into the Gauley Mine keypad. To save FO76 fans a bit of time, the Gauley Mine code is 071990.
To note, hunting down codes and keycards is no small part of Fallout 76, and indeed players will find themselves searching for another series of numbers when they eventually come across the game's Mysterious Cave. However, unlike the Gauley Mine code, the Mysterious Cave code can not simply be transcribed, as it is unique to every player.
With the Wastelanders update, Bethesda has looked to breathe new life into Fallout 76, and player response has thus far been quite positive. Hopefully, this guide will assist those fans that may be stuck trying to locate the Gauley Mine ID card, allowing them to move onto earning the new weapons, fighting the new monster, and engaging with the rest of the new content that was added with Wastelanders.
What's Inside The Gauley Mine Code Cage?
Part of the Fallout 76 experience is exploring and unearthing all of the interesting things that the storyline has to offer. Inside the code-locked cage within Gauley Mine is a sealed door that players will need the Gauley Mine ID card for. What lies beyond this door is better left to surprise, as the keycard will be gained organically through storyline progression, but there are still some interesting things to pick up after unlocking the surrounding cage.

NOTE: Players who gain access to the area before the door will find lootable explosives, a raider chest piece, and some junk items useful for crafting. |
Fallout 76 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
