How to Save in Fallout 76?

To save the game, fast-travel to another location, complete missions, or quit the game to the main menu. These actions trigger an auto-save in Fallout 76 which preserves the progress by uploading it to the server. Note that Fallout 76 is an MMORPG requiring an internet connection to save data.

Fast Travel to Another Location

Open the menu, hover over a location or interest point, and select Fast Travel. This will force the game to save.

Since fast travel in Fallout 76 needs CAPS, consider traveling to the following free locations:

Do a Daily Mission or Complete Side Quests

In the menu, press right on the D-pad to see the daily and weekly missions. Get any of these done to save the game or finish one of the main objectives for the same effect.

Quit the Game to the Main Menu

Open Map and select Quit in the menu. Wait for the game to load the title screen and save the date. Do not use this method if the internet connection is unstable.

Restarting the game after an auto-save doesn’t guarantee it to spawn in the same area. Players might be forced to continue their progress in a nearby location. But this doesn’t affect their stats, collectibles, and other saved details.

Can Players Load Saves in Fallout 76?

Save-scumming is unavailable in Fallout 76. The game has no load function, and all players’ data is stored on cloud servers. This makes sense because Fallout 76 is a Massively Multiplayer Online game that could be ruined by save-scummers.

Can Players Ensure the Game Is Properly Saved?

Unfortunately, there’s no icon to indicate when Fallout 76 is saving. However, players can follow these instructions to ensure the progress is saved:

  • Do not close the game without quitting.
  • Do not play Fallout 76 on an unstable network.
  • Stay logged in.
  • Give the game 1–2 minutes before closing it.

Fallout 76 is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
