Fallout 76’s Ghoul Within and Season 20 update will finally bring the franchise’s first-ever playable Ghoul character on March 18. Players who transform their character into a Ghoul in Fallout 76 will have access to all-new buildcrafting tools and gameplay mechanics during combat, and, as time goes on, the playable Ghoul will also have interactions throughout the world and quests. However, it will naturally take some time for these unique Ghoul interactions to arrive in future updates for Fallout 76, as it’s safe to assume that most or all of the existing quests won’t be updated with any unique encounters for players who transform their characters into a Ghoul.
Overall, the limited amount of Ghoul-exclusive interactions will make for a somewhat awkward transition period with players’ new Ghoul status initially having little impact on their experience outside of combat. Over time, this will be a problem of the past, but one way that Fallout 76 could have made this initial transition period a bit less jarring would have been to add a new Ghoul CAMP ally. Unfortunately, though, with the Season 20 SCORE rewards already officially revealed ahead of the new update and no Ghoul CAMP ally in sight, Fallout 76 arguably missed this perfect opportunity.

A New CAMP Ally Could Make the Playable Ghoul Character’s Introduction Less Awkward
Aside from the new questline and characters that will be introduced in Fallout 76’s Ghoul Within and Season 20 update, there will be little to no other unique interactions and encounters for players who transform their characters into a Ghoul. This is quite understandable, as Fallout 76’s playable Ghoul character is coming to the game after almost seven years of past content updates, and recording new voice lines and outcomes for all the existing quests would be quite a big challenge to tackle.
The questline to transform into a Ghoul will become available once players reach level 50 in Fallout 76.
This also seems true of the existing CAMP allies in Fallout 76. Even though there are already two Ghoul CAMP allies available, Xerxo and Leo Petrov, it seems like none of the existing CAMP allies will have any unique interactions with players who transform their character into a Ghoul. Considering how few Ghoul-exclusive interactions there will be immediately after this update is introduced, this will arguably make for an awkward transition period for players who transform their characters into a Ghoul. Naturally, a new Ghoul CAMPally could help to make this transition period a lot less jarring.
Fallout 76 Already Has a Need for New CAMP Allies
Aside from how a new CAMP ally could be perfect for ushering in the new Ghoul experience, there is already a need for more CAMP in Fallout 76 at this point anyway. Specifically, more CAMP allies like Beckett and Sofia Daguerre, who have long questlines and can be romanced, as opposed to the long list of “lite” CAMP allies in Fallout 76 who have relatively limited interactions. Given that there are only two CAMP allies like this in Fallout 76, there was already a need for new additions to this NPC group even before the new Ghoul playable character was announced.
With the Season 20 SCORE rewards track featuring Ghoul-themed rewards, it will likely be a while before future Seasons in Fallout 76 ever feature Ghoul-themed rewards again. With CAMP allies typically being introduced in the Seasons’ SCORE rewards tracks, this seems like a perfect opportunity to introduce a new Ghoul CAMP ally, that was ultimately missed. However, considering the existing demand for new CAMP allies and why Ghoul player characters in particular could benefit from this, Bethesda shouldn’t shy away from introducing a new Ghoul CAMP in Fallout 76’s future updates, sooner rather than later.
