Fallout 76: 6 Ways To Maximize Critical Hit Damage

Critical hits can easily take out tough enemies in Fallout 76. Here's how players can get as much damage out of them as possible.

1

These new weapons are going to encourage players to come up with fun and creative build styles to get the most out of them. While they probably won't be anybody's primary weapon, they and still be fun weapons to test out and display at player CAMPS.

Updated on June 13, 2024, by Benjamin Joe: Since this article was written, Bethesda made some big changes to one of the new weapons that is now live in the game. That weapon is the Ticket To Revenge. Because of this change, this article has been reworked to better reflect the weapon's capabilities. The weapon now has different, less powerful effects on it, which has left some fans a bit disappointed. That said, the weapon could still be reasonably powerful if the player has the right perks to go alongside it. On top of that, the Skyline Valley update marks the first time that the map has been expanded. So, Fallout 76 players now have a lot more to dive into and explore.

4 Shattered Grounds

An Explosive Handmade Rifle

Shattered Grounds in Fallout 76
  • How To Get: Complete Double Crossed Wires
  • Effects: Junkie's, Explosive, 90% Weight Reduction

The Handmade Rifle is a popular weapon thanks to its relatively high damage and fast fire rate. It's a highly customizable weapon that can be modified to be a single-shot rifle or an automatic rifle. Shattered Grounds is a named legendary variant of the Handmade Rifle. Players can get this weapon by completing the Double-Crossed Wires quest. It has its own unique paint skin, and it is a fairly well-rounded weapon.

Its effects are Junkie's, Explosive, and 90% Reduced Weight. While the Junkie's effect lets this weapon down a little, it can still be a viable weapon for players to use. Should the player use this weapon in combination with Commando and Demolition Expert, then it can pack a serious punch. This could also be a good weapon choice for lower-level players since it's pretty powerful, and ammo for it is typically easy to come by.

3 V63 Zweihander

An Electrical Two-Handed Melee Weapon

V63 Zweihander in Fallout 76
  • How To Get: Complete The Eye of The Storm
  • Effects: +50% Damage When The Target's Health is Below 40%, +40% Power Attack Damage, Take 40% Less Damage While Power Attacking

To get this weapon, the player needs to complete the quest The Eye of The Storm. This electrical two-handed weapon is a cool-looking item with decent legendary effects. This isn't a variant of an existing weapon; it is completely new to the game. While non-automatic two-handed weapons aren't normally very popular, the V63 Zweihander has the potential to be a somewhat decent tool.

While it probably won't be anybody's main weapon, it could be a fun one to use to complete challenges that involve killing enemies with melee weapons. Its effects can be seen below:

  • Executioner's
  • Power Attack Damage
  • Defender's

The effects aren't anything too special. The main draw for this weapon is its energy damage. It does a decent amount, and with the right perks, its damage output can be increased dramatically. Unfortunately, like most two-handed weapons in the game, players will find themselves needing to repair the V63 Zweihander fairly regularly. For the most part, it looks like players may want to display this weapon at their CAMPS instead of incorporating it into their build.

2 V63 Shock Baton

An Electrical Melee Weapon

V63 Shock Baton in Fallout 76
  • How To Get: Complete Housekeeping For Hire
  • Effects: Anti Armor, +50% Limb Damage, Breaks 50% Slower

Players are able to get their hands on this melee weapon by completing the Housekeeping For Hire quest. The weapon is a legendary shock baton. It looks a little like a re-skinned cattle prod but with a futuristic spin. The V63 Shock Baton is a one-handed melee weapon, and its legendary effects are Anti Armor, 50% Limb Damage, and Weapon Breaks 50% Slower.

Fallout 76: The 15 Best Melee Weapons, Ranked

Using the best melee for a build can be the difference between decimating enemies and being found dead in the wastelands.

While it's not going to change the value of current one-handed melee weapons, it is going to be a fun weapon to use for melee fans. It has a medium swing speed, and it deals both energy and melee damage. Like with most weapons in Fallout 76, this weapon can do a fair amount of damage with the right build. But this will probably end up being a niche tool that most players won't really use that often.

1 Ticket To Revenge

A Railway Rifle Variant

Ticket To Revenge in Fallout 76
  • How To Get: Complete Seeking Shelter
  • Public Test Server Effects: Bloodied, +50% VATS Hit Chance, +25% Critical Charge
  • New Effects: Furious, Faster Fire Rate, 90% Weight Reduction

Ticket to Revenge is the weapon that has got players talking. This Railway Rifle variant has double the ammo capacity of the standard Railway Rifle. The Railway Rifle is a very powerful weapon, but its limited ammo capacity is what lets it down. Without the Quad effect, Railway Rifles are pretty difficult to use successfully. But that will change with the introduction of the Ticket to Revenge.

Instead of being able to hold the standard 10 Spikes, the Ticket to Revenge holds 20 Spikes. This means that players won't have to reload as often as they would with a standard Railway Rifle. As for its legendary effects, they have been changed. Originally, the weapon was going to have the following effects:

  • Bloodied
  • VATS Enhanced
  • Lucky

But Bethesda introduced a last minute change to the weapon that has dramatically decreased its value. The new effects that this weapon has can be seen below:

  • Furious
  • Faster Fire Rate
  • 90% Reduced Weight

While the weapon can still be pretty effective at taking down enemies, it is a big downgrade from what it was originally going to be. According to Bethesda Game Studios, the weapon has been changed to "make sure that it's in a healthy spot for future systems that will be added to the game."

Understandably, there are some fans who aren't happy as they were looking forward to getting their hands on the Bloodied version of Ticket to Revenge. Unfortunately, Bethesda hasn't gone into any more detail regarding the specifics behind the downgrade, so players may have to wait a while to find out more details.

Re-Rolling The New Weapons

Unfortunately, the weapons introduced with the Skyline Valley update can't be re-rolled. When it comes to being able to re-roll named legendary weapons, Bethesda hasn't been very consistent. In some updates, players can do it, and then in others, they can't. But, at least for now, it doesn't look like players will be able to roll the new weapons.

Some players are disappointed by this news, as weapons like the Holy Fire and Elder's Mark are very popular legendary weapons that players re-roll in the hopes of getting some great new effects.
