In November 2024, it was reported that Macaulay Culkin, the actor best known for his role as Kevin McCalister in the Home Alone movies, had joined the cast for the second season of Amazon's critically acclaimed Fallout TV show. The outlet that first broke this news, Deadline, alleged that Culkin would have a recurring role as a "crazy genius-type character." Based on this brief description, many Fallout fans assumed that Culkin would play the role of Arcade Gannon, a scientist and member of the Followers of the Apocalypse who serves as one of the main companions in Fallout: New Vegas. Previous reports had already revealed that the Fallout show's second season would take place in New Vegas, so this assumption made sense at the time.

A few days ago, Amazon finally gave viewers a sneak peek at Fallout Season 2 during Gamescom's Opening Night Live event. The season's first trailer, which focused on Lucy and the Ghoul making a trip to New Vegas, featured a lot of familiar faces from the Fallout franchise, including Mr. House, Victor, and even a Deathclaw. Despite this blowout of information about the show, Macaulay Culkin's role in Fallout Season 2 is still unclear. However, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment from the series' latest trailer has led people to reconsider their theories about his unannounced character.

Some Fans Think They've Spotted Macaulay Culkin in the Recent Fallout Season 2 Trailer

The Fallout Season 2 trailer highlights many of the factions that were introduced in Fallout: New Vegas, such as the group of Elvis impersonators known as the Kings and the Roman-inspired dictatorship called Caesar's Legion. Although the trailer doesn't reveal much about the role that these factions have in the Fallout TV show, it does contain a brief scene that shows a group of Legion warriors standing in front of a man with his back facing toward the camera. While no information is given about who this man is, his attire seems to suggest that he is a ruler of some kind and potentially even Edward "Caesar" Sallow himself.

Macaulay Culkin May Be Portraying Caesar in the Fallout TV Show

Interested in figuring out what his role is, some Fallout fans on Reddit have suggested that Macaulay Culkin is the mysterious man shown in the Fallout Season 2 trailer. The Legion ruler’s ears, as one Redditor pointed out, appear to resemble the shape of Culkin’s real-life ears. While Culkin being cast as the ruthless leader of Caesar's Legion would certainly be unprecedented , given his penchant for portraying light-hearted characters, this role does somewhat fit the "crazy genius" description that Deadline has provided.

Major spoilers for Fallout: New Vegas below.

Edward "Caesar" Sallow May Be Dead in the Fallout TV Show's Timeline

Fallout Season 2 takes place 15 years after the events of Fallout: New Vegas, so in the time that has passed, a lot of things may have changed in the franchise's universe. Because of this, if Macaulay Culkin is indeed playing the role of Caesar in the Fallout TV show, it's possible that he is not the Caesar from the games, but rather a different character entirely. As fans of the game may know, Edward "Caesar" Sallow suffers from a brain tumor in Fallout: New Vegas, which, depending on players' actions, may or may not be removed. If Sallow is dead in the timeline of the Fallout TV show, then maybe another member of Caesar's Legion has taken up the mantle of Caesar.

The Fallout TV show is canon to the Fallout universe, but it's not clear which of Fallout: New Vegas's endings it follows up on.

It's Possible Macaulay Culkin is Playing Another Character, Like Vulpes Inculta or Legate Lanius, Instead

Vulpes Inculta in Fallout New Vegas

During the ending in which players side with the Legion in Fallout: New Vegas, Edward "Caesar" Sallow dies from his brain tumor, and Legate Lanius, the Monster of the East, becomes his successor. It's possible that Macaulay Culkin is portraying Legate Lanius in Fallout Season 2, but given that he lacks the distinctive mask of said character, perhaps he's playing Vulpes Inculta, Caesar's right-hand man, instead. On the other hand, there's always a chance that Culkin is portraying a brand-new character in the Fallout TV series, but until Amazon shares more information about its new season, the answer to the questions surrounding his role will remain up in the air.
