How to Increase Affinity in Fantasy Life i

As players explore time itself in Fantasy Life i, they must gather resources, fight monsters, and build up their island. Buddies are picked up as players find Strangelings and travel with them. Buddies fight alongside players, assist with gathering resources, and call the Base Camp their home. While many are picked up during story missions, they can also be found by exploring or fighting bosses.

Buddies level up as players do, but they also have an Affinity level. Affinity is a companion system that details how close players are to each Buddy. As Affinity increases, the Buddy earns special abilities. Affinity is tracked under the Characters Menu as empty hearts, and their Affinity is maxed out once they are full.

There are several ways for players to increase Affinity:

Talk to Buddies at Base Camp: Base Camp is where players have their home base, and their Buddies wander around the island. Talking to everyone once a day gradually raises Affinity.
Give Buddies Gifts: While the option doesn't always appear, players can give Buddies a gift. Buddies have gift preferences based on their Class, so if players provide them with something they like, they will get more Affinity.
Complete Buddy Requests: Buddies will also have requests, and players must craft, deliver, or build something for them. Buddy Requests grants the most Affinity in Fantasy Life I.
Add Buddies to your Party: Buddies who travel with players as Party Members get a slight boost to Affinity over time, but this method takes the longest. Affinity does not max out until level 50 and higher. Players can edit their Party Formation by talking to Boyle inside the Guild.

Perks of Increasing Affinity

Taking the time to increase Affinity has several benefits. Party Members with high Affinity will add temporary stamina, health, and attack buffs to the player's stats, or they will gain special skills in combat or gathering, depending on their Class.

Players will unlock special items, like clothing, when they max out Affinity.

Players can be strategic with their Buddies and plan which ones to take depending on the activity. Paladins and Mercenaries are good to have in combat scenarios, while players may want to bring Anglers for fishing trips. Still, having many Buddies at the base camp is also ideal for making development easier. Players trying to increase their Island's Rating will need to keep recruiting Buddies to unlock all the benefits.
