You can swim in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, but how useful is this mechanic in terms of gameplay? Swimming's a good way to cut from one shore to another without having to take the long road, but there are some limitations. If you want to increase your swimming speed in Fantasy Life i, you should seek out a key item in Ginormosia. This area unlocks after you return to your time, so if you're still in Mysteria, then keep working on the "Life on a Mysterious Island" story quest.

How to Unlock Swimming in Fantasy Life i

Swimming Gameplay Limitations

Once you gain control of your character on the shores of Mysteria, you'll unlock swimming. Simply approach a body of water and jump in. However, you'll notice that you can't swim in the ocean or in the river beneath Mysteria's capital. You can only swim in small lakes or some of the rivers in Ginormosia.

Can You Swim On Your Mount?

Once you reunite with Edward, you'll be introduced to a new land called Ginormosia. Ginormosia is separate from the present day and Mysteria, but there's plenty for you to do. One of the first things you'll be tasked with in Chapter 2: Leap of a Thousand Years, is getting a mount. Just follow along with the main objectives and you'll eventually meet a bear called the Don. Helping out Don will unlock mounts.

Mounts can be called any time, but you can't ride them into town or in caves (such as The Depths). Since mounts are a faster way of traveling, you might be tempted to see if they can swim. Unfortunately, mounts in Fantasy Life i can't swim. If you try to summon a mount while in the water, the horse/mount icon will pop up with a cross over it. You can, however, ride mounts through shallow waters, but this isn't the same as swimming.

How To Get Flame Hood In Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

Here's how to get Flame Hood in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time to complete certain requests.

Where to Find Madam Chomp

What Does the Swimmer's Pride Do?

If you want to swim faster, you'll need the Swimmer's Pride item. You'll need to track down a shark monster named Madam Chomp in Ginormosia and complete her task. Specifically, Madam Chomp can be found in Easy Dryridge Desert on the river bank north of Haniwa Hamlet. You can refer to the pointer in the third image above for the exact location.

When you speak to Madam Chomp for the first time, she'll have you swim out in the nearby lake to test your swimming skills. Speak to her again and, in exchange for five Cashnuts, she'll give you the Swimmer's Pride item so you can swim faster. This item is automatic and does not need to be equipped.

Cashnuts are the currency used in Ginormosia and are a separate type of money from Dosh and the Celestia Flowers. There are a few ways you can farm Cashnuts in Fantasy Life i:

  1. Complete Area Challenges. These are the glowing red icons on your Ginormosia map. You'll want to complete them quickly as the faster you do so, the more Cashnuts you'll earn.
  2. Another way is to find Leafes in Ginormosia. These are the small, bright-colored leaves that stick out of the ground. Uprooting them will earn you one Cashnut.
  3. Finally, if you unlocked the Farmer Life, you can start selling fresh produce at the Evershops in Ginormosia.

Don't forget you can hold down the sprint button while in the water. Again, you can only swim in certain bodies of water, and the ocean is not one of them.
