Ubisoft has released a surprise new update for Far Cry 4 on the PlayStation 5, finally adding 60 FPS support on the console. Despite initially launching in 2014 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC, Far Cry 4 has become the latest Ubisoft title to receive a surprise update that enhances the game on current-generation consoles.
Among many other titles, such as Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, and Watch Dogs, Far Cry is one of the studio's most popular and beloved series. While it isn't surprising that Ubisoft is continuing the series with new entries, its support for older titles has left fans somewhat shocked. Before today's unexpected Far Cry 4 update, Ubisoft deployed a 60 FPS patch for Far Cry New Dawn, the spin-off and sequel to Far Cry 5. Fans have been begging Ubisoft to add support for 60 FPS on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 to many of its older titles, with Far Cry 4 now becoming the latest Ubisoft game to receive the same treatment.

Far Cry 4 Receives 60 FPS Patch on PS5
While rumors continue to circulate about a potential Far Cry 7, Ubisoft is still seemingly committed to previous entries in the series, as a new update for Far Cry 4 is now available on PlayStation 5. Patch 1.08 is now available for download (per PlayStation Game Size) and introduces 60 FPS support for fans playing on the current-generation console. While the update isn't available on Xbox Series X/S, Far Cry 4 has had support for 60 FPS on the latest Xbox consoles ever since 2021, thanks to Microsoft's FPS boost feature. PlayStation 5 users were previously locked to 30 FPS, but can now check out the big upgrade by downloading the newest patch.
The update comes just a few weeks after Ubisoft unintentionally censored nudity in Far Cry 4 following the launch of a new update. On April 3, Far Cry 4 fans were left confused when the eleven-year-old title received a mysterious update that seemingly removed any nudity from the game. Shortly after the update was released, a Ubisoft representative took to Reddit to confirm that the update was a "mistake." According to Ubisoft, content that was specifically developed for the Japanese version of Far Cry 4 was accidentally uploaded to the worldwide version of the game on Steam. The mistake has since been reversed and Ubisoft has confirmed there are no plans to censor Far Cry 4 at this time.
Ubisoft's sudden 60 FPS updates for some of its older titles come as the studio has also been adding Steam achievements to titles such as Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Far Cry 5, and more. The same feature is also being made readily available for Ubisoft's newer titles, such as Assassin's Creed Shadows, which launched on Steam with achievements on day one.
