Summary

  • Far Cry games' endings offer surprising and impactful final lines, often delivered by villains.
  • Special endings in Far Cry games, like Far Cry Primal and Far Cry, provide rewarding and memorable conclusions.
  • Far Cry 5 ends with a haunting proclamation highlighting Joseph Seed's God complex, adding a spine-chilling note.

The Far Cry games certainly know how to kick off their stories with a bang, featuring some of the most memorable and action-packed intro sequences in video game history. However, this can often overshadow the game's endings, which also tend to be very unexpected and surprising, but there's always still a final line, to sum up the adventure and to act as a final sendoff to the player after their long and arduous journey.

Far Cry 6: 8 Ways To Shake Up A Second Playthrough

Immerse within Yara once more in Far Cry 6 by finding new and fun ways to experience a second playthrough that may be better than the last.

The writing in Far Cry games has always been known for being quite exuberant and a little random, especially from the villains, who are often the ones who get the final say during the closing moments of each game. With that in mind, it's time to take a look at the most impactful, memorable, and thought-provoking final lines in this immensely popular series to see which has stuck with players the most. Before jumping in, this list will also include secret endings alongside the original endings to the games.

Many of the Far Cry games feature secret endings that can be unlocked at the beginning of the adventure, and in the case of Far Cry 4, it activates if players sit at Pagan Min's dinner table for a few minutes after he leaves the room. After Ajay plants his mother's ashes, Pagan invites him over to a helicopter, where he assures him the two will finally be able to spend some quality time together by firing off a few guns. Though, considering Min's reputation, he probably doesn't mean heading over to the firing range.

Despite obviously being a very silly line, it also feeds into a big part of the series' gameplay loop, which is blasting through hordes of enemies with a wild assortment of weapons. At the same time, it also makes players wonder how much chaos this unlikely duo could truly cause if they were to team up.

Over the course of a Far Cry Primal playthrough, players must try to survive in the prehistoric wilderness while also conquering the land of Oros for their tribe. With gigantic wooly mammoths and saber-toothed tigers lurking around every corner, fulfilling this mission is far from easy, but players are at least congratulated with a small celebration for their efforts at the end of the story.

Once players reunite with their Wenja clan members, Sayla will assure them they can now 'rest' with their brothers and sisters as everyone begins dancing in a circle to congratulate Takkar for his heroic efforts. It's a short but rewarding climactic line that allows players to take a final sight of relief before the end credits roll.

Jack Carver, the main protagonist of the first Far Cry game, goes through a pretty hellish ordeal after finding himself stranded on a mysterious island. It doesn't take long for him to realize the area is actually being used as a base for genetic modification, which was being tested on live humans, including Jack's friend Val.

After gunning his way through hordes of soldiers, Jack finally manages to catch up to Doyle, a former ally of Jack's who reveals he was simply using the mercenary the entire time to further his own selfish schemes. Despite Doyle saying that Jack can't change the future, Jack responds by saying he at least has the power to ensure Doyle won't be a part of it, making for an epic final line to the game that kicked off the entire series.

Far Cry 6 puts players in the shoes of Dani, a guerrilla fighter who partakes in the revolution against Yara's vicious dictator, Anton Castillo. This is what the game is meant to be about, at least, but if players decide to sail away from the island, they'll instead be greeted with a final cutscene of Dani relaxing on the beach with a radio next to them.

After the speaker says that Castillo has crushed the liberation forces and that a pandemic is still spreading across the world, it then asks whether or not the listeners would like something a little more upbeat to lighten the mood. The fact this question comes after confirmation that Yara has been utterly decimated by Castillo and his forces results in a final line that manages to be both unnerving and hilarious at the same time.

Far Cry 3_ Blood Dragon In Game Screenshot 1

Though Blood Dragon is technically an expansion to the original Far Cry 3, many still consider it its own game due to how wildly different it is in pretty much every aspect. While the game features a huge assortment of new weapons and abilities, it also introduces a brand-new cast of characters, with the endlessly charismatic Rex being the star of the show.

8 Best Far Cry Villain Quotes, Ranked

Ubisoft always manages to knock it out of the park with the Far Cry villains, all of whom have said some iconic quotes in their respective games.

Another very important character is Darling, who works alongside Rex for the majority of the game as a close ally and, at the very end of the story, claims the two needed one another to survive. What amplifies the quote is the visual that comes after, where Darling stares at the screen with bright purple eyes, insinuating that this heartwarming quote might be a little more sinister than some may have expected.

Though Far Cry 3 plays a lot like the average open-world Ubisoft game, it does also feature a clever bit of meta-commentary that feeds into the core gameplay loop. While Jason starts off the game, fending for his life in order to rescue his friends, as he acquires more weapons and abilities, the hunted suddenly turns into the hunter, as he soon becomes infatuated with killing as many enemies as possible.

By the end of the game, players can decide to ditch their friends entirely in order to continue being the king of the jungle, but if they do so, they will pay the ultimate sacrifice upon being stabbed by the mischievous Citra. During the sequence, she assures Jason that he's a "warrior" before leaving players with the eerie but memorable quote: "You won."

Throughout most of Far Cry 2, the main villain who players are tasked with hunting down is an arms dealer simply known as the Jackal. However, after meeting the guy face to face, it becomes clear his motives are a lot more complex than players may have initially realized, and by the end of the story, he will even become an ally.

In order to prevent a horde of UFLL and APR soldiers from opening fire on a village of civilians, players can choose to manually set off a bomb to stop them in their tracks, but not before the Jackal provides one final sendoff. The Jackal admits the two will be dead in the next hour, which is an unusually somber line from the man who has been presented as the big bad villain for most of the game.

Throughout the story of Far Cry 5, Joseph Seed, the maniacal main villain of the game and leader of Eden's Gate, continues to warn the player that the world is on the verge of what he likes to call "the Collapse." While it's easy to assume that the guy has simply gone made with power due to his god-complex, in the Resist ending, players will actually be able to see a nuclear bomb landing in the distance, proving that Joseph was actually somewhat correct in his prediction.

As chaos ensues and everyone tries to escape the blast, the final shot shows Joseph sitting in an underground bunker with the Deputy, where he proclaims that the two are now "father and child" and that they will find salvation in "Eden's Gate." This haunting final line makes it seem like Joseph is more than happy to start up his violent group of fanatics all over again, only this time, the Deputy will also be a core follower of the group, which is certainly a spine-chilling note to end on.
