FBC: Firebeak's concurrent Steam player count has plummeted to single digits as the game's struggles continue. While the Control spin-off generated a good deal of excitement leading up to its release, it hasn't had the easiest time maintaining a consistent player base post-launch. While the devs have big plans for FBC: Firebreak down the line, it seems many of its PC players have already checked out.
Despite its current state, the co-op shooter got off a decent start upon its debut. Shortly over a week after its launch, FBC: Firebreak surpassed one million players across all platforms, something a low price tag and a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass likely helped. Since then, though, things haven't been quite as sunny, with the game receiving mixed reviews and its player count quickly dwindling from those initial heights, at least on PC.
FBC: Firebreak Is Struggling on PC
Remedy Entertainment's newest first-person shooter FBC: Firebreak is struggling to pull in PC players just over one week since its launch.
FBC: Firebreak's Steam Player Count Hits Single Digits
According to SteamDB (as spotted by TheGamer), FBC: Firebreak is currently sitting at just seven players on Steam at the time of writing. Its 24-hour peak is higher but still low at just 21, and it has dipped into single digits several times over the past few days. This continues an unfortunate trend the game had set earlier this summer, with FBC: Firebreak's peak Steam player count falling into double digits in July, roughly a month after its release. While the game was never as popular on Steam as it was on consoles, these numbers are a far cry from its all-time peak of nearly 2,000 concurrent Steam players FBC: Firebreak set on launch day.
The game's PC struggles likely stem from a combination of issues. Many players have pointed out how FBC: Firebreak is difficult to get into, thanks to a lack of explanation of several of its mechanics, a misleadingly easy introductory section, and locking many of its most engaging aspects behind hours of progression. Others have complained about a general lack of content. While Remedy has not marketed FBC: Firebeak as a live-service game, players today may expect at least some regular updates to keep them engaged, especially when the game does not seem to offer much at the start.
Remedy has reassured fans that it hopes to change the game for the better. In July, the studio announced FBC: Firebreak would be getting its first major update in late September, which will include a formal tutorial and more content to keep players engaged from the beginning and make it easier to get the hang of core mechanics. The shooter's combat and progression systems will also be overhauled in the coming months. Whether that will be enough to draw more PC players remains uncertain, but fans can take some relief knowing updates are on the way.
