The developers of the upcoming EA Sports FC 26 have recently revealed the extreme lengths they went to to discover the reason for the input delay in the franchise’s previous entry. Competitive online games such as EA Sports FC 26 need to run extremely well, and issues such as input delay can really damage the experience of players.
EA Sports FC is one of Electronic Arts’ most important franchises, and it receives new entries annually. The latest game in the series, EA Sports FC 25, was released on September 27, 2024, and it will be followed by EA Sports FC 26 on September 26.

FC 26 Developer EA Sports Visited Pro Players and Content Creators' Homes to Address Input Delay
Now, EA Sports senior producer Sam Rivera has revealed to IGN how the team uncovered the reasons for the input delay in FC 25 online matches. While issues with online play in EA Sports FC 25 are not unheard of, this was a persistent problem that became a major grievance of the community. Rivera said that the developers work with players from all over the world, gathering data to understand the issues, and that the team went to extreme lengths to “experience input delay ourselves.” To do it, they traveled to Europe and met with pro FC 25 players, as well as visiting the homes of content creators.
After doing this, the developer discovered many reasons for the input delay and new ways to minimize it. For instance, players are recommended to employ Ethernet cables instead of Wi-Fi to play, as it’s much more stable, and to use “game mode” on their TVs. Many issues, however, were caused by the game itself, including problems with limited animation coverage, the animation system box, or even glitches. In any case, the developer is using the information to avoid having these issues in the next game.
It’s obvious that EA Sports is focused on improving the experience of gamers who love the EA Sports FC series. EA Sports FC 25 underperformed EA’s expectations, so there’s clearly some pressure for the next entry to fare better.
Another effort to improve the realism of EA Sports FC 25 was the acquisition of TRACAB Technologies earlier this year. Back in February, EA revealed that acquiring the technology company focused on tracking real-world soccer data would be important to increase the level of sophistication in replicating real-life games during gameplay. Hopefully, these improvements will mean EA Sports FC 26 will be a smooth experience with more realism for most players.
