Today, the New York Times Games is back with another Wordle puzzle. This game gives players a mystery five-letter word to ponder over and try to guess in just six tries without any starting clues. In order to win today, some players might be looking for a hint or two to help them out.

How To Play Wordle

This article is all about the original version of Wordle. This version is hosted by the New York Times Games; it can be found on the Games website and the NYT Crossword app only. There are tons of copycats and clones out there, but this is the original. Other versions can be loads of fun too, but they will have different answers and can have slightly different rules of how to play than what is written here.

To play, players will first need to choose a great starting Wordle word. But to pick the best one for today, players should first have an idea of what makes a great starter. Here's a little help:

  • All Wordle answers must be real, five-letter English words.
  • They cannot be proper nouns, previous answers, or plural nouns ending in S.
  • The best starter words have five different common letters with at least two vowels.
  • Avoid any offensive words and non-Americanized spellings of words.

After choosing a starter, type it into the site and press enter. The letters will change colors.

  • Green letters = correct
  • Gray letters = incorrect
  • Yellow letters = right but in the wrong position in the word

Given these clues, keep trying new words and getting new clues until the answer is guessed or players run out of their six total tries.
