How To Get Animals In Fields Of Mistria
To get animals in Fields of Mistria you first need to unlock the Mill and complete the "Tea with Hayden" quest, which opens the door to getting animals for your farm and making animal feed in the Mill. Shortly after repairing the Mill, Hayden sends you a letter inviting you to tea at Sweetwater Farm around Day 5 of Summer, Year 1. However, it's not just about sitting down for a cup of tea with Hayden and his chicken. Hayden explains how you can get animals for your farm and offers a short but handy ranching tutorial.
Completing the "Tea with Hayden" quest unlocks the ability to buy animals from Hayden's shop by adopting baby animals from the Adoption menu, with the first possibilities being chickens and cows. However, it costs money to get animals in Fields of Mistria, so you can expect to cough up 1,000 Tesserae for a chicken and 2,000 Tesserae for a cow. Once you have enough money to pay for a coup or barn blueprint, you must then place it somewhere on your farm. This creates a mini-construction site and gives you a storage box to put away all the necessary materials. Once you've got everything you need, you can craft it and enter the building through the door, which is where the animals will appear once adopted.
Return to Hayden's Farm Shop to buy your first animal from the Adoption menu. The animals then automatically appear inside your coup or barn. It's also a good idea to make sure you're got some grass seeds to feed chickens or hay to feed larger animals like cows, so you can place some feed in their trough or try hand feeding them straight away.

Once you've adopted an animal in Fields of Mistria, you'll need to do a few things each day to care for it and keep it happy:
- Feed animals daily by either hand-feeding them, placing animal feed inside their trough, or letting them graze outside.
- Call animals outside on sunny days using your barn or coup bell, but avoid bringing them outside in bad weather, and remember to bring them inside by the end of each day.
- Pet your animals every day to keep them happy by interacting with them.
Inside a small barn, you can place four stacks of animal feed, like hay or grass seeds, inside the trough so you don't have to spend time hand-feeding them daily, as they'll just eat the food themselves. You can also make animal feed in the Mill, or send your animals to Hayden's farm for daycare on days you might not have much time to care for them, such as when exploring Fields of Mistria's Mines.
