Summary
- Real-life crash in Tulsa echoes iconic Final Destination scene
- The movie franchise's memorable moments remain haunting in fans' minds
- Despite horrifying similarities, no injuries reported in Tulsa crash
Horror fans know that Final Destination 2 has the most unforgettable opening sequence of any movie in the popular franchise, and something similar just happened in real life.
The first Final Destination was released in 2000 and starred Devon Sawa as Alex Browning, a teenager who has a vision of his high school class getting killed in a plane crash on the way to Paris. These stories stand out because Death itself is the villain, not a masked killer, ghost, or creature. The sixth and latest entry, Final Destination: Bloodlines, put a unique spin on Death. After seeing the memorable Final Destination 2 opening, it's hard not to think about that when hearing this recent news.
Final Destination Bloodlines Ending, Explained
The ending of Final Destination Bloodlines pays homage to the beloved horror franchise's best moments.
A Semi Crashed On Highway 75 In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Echoing The Final Destination 2 Opening Scene
According toNews On 6, a semi truck crashed on Highway 75 in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Monday June 16th, 2025. Metal pipes fell out onto the highway, which was shut down at 3:30 p.m. Two hours later, the publication reported that while the southbound road was still shut down, the northbound road had been opened. News on 6 reported that no one was sure why the crash happened.
The image of the crash is unsettling and scary, especially for horror fans who have seen the Final Destination franchise. While every movie has a terrifying ending, audiences always anticipate the opening scenes, as this is where the inciting incident happens. At the beginning of Final Destination 2, Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) is driving on Route 23 when she has a vision of a logging truck causing a massive and deadly crash. Like the other characters who can tell what grisly scenario is going to take place, Kimberly is freaked out and unsure what to do. As she thought, the logging truck crashes, and several people are killed.
Each Final Destination movie features an intense and terrifying event, from a bridge collapse to an amusement park ride breaking down, but the logging track crash might be the most realistic. For that reason, of course, it's the scariest and the one that sticks in people's minds the most. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported as a result of the Highway 75 Tulsa crash, and it wasn't as deadly and terrible as this horror movie scene. As reported by K95 Tulsa, the driver didn't get hurt.
Devon Sawa even mentioned the Final Destination 2 opening sequence in a December 2023 social media post. According to Entertainment Weekly, he posted that he was on the highway behind a truck. He wrote in the caption, “Driving behind this log truck carrying Christmas trees and thought I’d wish you all a Happy Holidays!”
Final Destination: Bloodlines grossed more than $100 million worldwide, and has been an audience and critical hit, too. The latest entry in the franchise has an impressive 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating and 87% on the Popcornmeter. The story follows college student Stefani Reyes (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), who has a horrible nightmare and decides to figure out what's going on, once and for all. As the "bloodlines" part of the title suggests, these nightmares have something to do with her family, which adds a fresh twist to the beloved franchise. Although Final Destination 7 hasn't been greenlit, fans would be surprised if the franchise didn't continue, considering the success of the sixth film.
