WARNING: The following article contains MAJOR Spoilers for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail. Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida said in an interview that players may not be finished dealing with the Ascians just yet, as some of their mysteries remain. However, Yoshida could not divulge too many details about how the Ascians would factor into Final Fantasy 14 going forward.
Since the beginning of Final Fantasy 14, the Ascians have been a thorn in players' sides. Known by many other titles, such as Ancients, Paragons, and the Convocation of Fourteen, the Ascians' original goal was to cause Umbral Calamities, like the ones that saw the emergence of Bahamut, and to reform the Elder Primal Zodiark in the process. When the ancient world of Etheirys was sundered into fourteen shards by Hydaelyn, Zodiark suffered a similar fate. During the main story of Endwalker, both Zodiark and Hydaelyn are defeated by the Warrior of Light and their companions. Ergo, one major goal of the Ascians is no longer attainable.
Final Fantasy 14 Players Can Get a New Mount By Buying Boba
Final Fantasy 14's promotion with the Gong cha bubble tea company gives players the chance to get a brand new mount for enjoying a few beverages.
Although several Ascians have been eliminated, a few remain unaccounted for. During an interview with Finaland and FFDream at the 2024 Japan Expo in Paris, Yoshida said that the Ascians may still have roles to play in the story of Final Fantasy 14. While the Ascians have yet to appear in Dawntrail's main story, Yoshida said there may still be clues for players to discover in future content updates. However, Yoshida could not confirm or deny if any leftover Ascians would show up at all. At the time of writing, seven Convocation members were eliminated by the Warrior of Light, including its most powerful members: Lahabrea, Emet-Selch, and Elidibus. Collectively, these three were known as the Unsundered.
Final Fantasy 14 May Not Be Done With The Ascians
- Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida said the team may have stories left about the Ascians.
- With the Hydaelyn-Zodiark Saga now over, the Ascians' original goal of reviving Zodiark can never be achieved.
- Yoshida refused to say when or where any Ascians could appear but said some clues can still be found.
Despite the Warrior of Light bearing the Crystal of Azem, one of the Convocation's members, they have no recollection of their time as an Ancient. Yoshida said that the legacy of the remaining Ascians are plot points the development team may touch upon down the line, including Azem and other members. However, Yoshida denied that Square Enix would return to tales that have already been completed, nor diminish the power of other Ancients like Emet-Selch via the stories set after Endwalker.
With the release of Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.01, the Arcadion raids are currently testing players' might in a WWE-style series of fights. Whether fans can expect to see an Ascian in future raid tiers remains to be seen, but it doesn't sound entirely impossible.
