Summary

  • Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail's latest patch is aiming to fix Xbox performances issues and character glitches when performing emotes.
  • Players received game time compensation for Dawntrail's problems, with Xbox players getting 10 days.
  • The investigation is still ongoing, with more game time possible for Xbox users if the issue continues.

On July 6, Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail released a bug fix patch that addressed some Xbox Series X/S version issues that made the game unplayable in certain locations. While other fixes need to be done, the new Final Fantasy 14 patch also addressed a bug that caused certain player character faces to glitch when using emotes.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail had a record-breaking launch and a smoother experience than its predecessor, Endwalker. This was thanks to players using the Data Center Travel system to alleviate queue times on the Aether Data Center. However, Dawntrail still had issues that affected players across the board, especially on the Xbox Series X/S client. On July 5, Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida said that players would be compensated with game time as an apology for Dawntrail's problems. All players will receive two days of game time, but Xbox players will get 10 days to make up for issues specific to that version.

A day after Yoshida's game time announcement, Square Enix released the first bug fix patch for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail since its full release. According to an announcement on the Lodestone, the Patch 7.0 Hotfix update required just over 200MB to download, and arrived after a brief maintenance period. The Xbox Series X/S game client saw some preliminary steps taken to address issues where the game turns unresponsive when going between zones with crowds of players. Square Enix referred to the problem as a memory fragmentation issue exclusive to the Xbox version. However, Square Enix also said the investigation is ongoing, as they are working with Microsoft to account for each potential cause. The company did not rule out granting additional game time to Xbox Series X/S players as the investigations continue.

Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.0 Hotfixes (July 6, 2024)

The following issues have been addressed:

  • Certain animations during cutscenes from the main scenario quest and trials did not perform correctly when the system configuration settings for Real-time Reflections were set to High or Standard.
  • Graphics were not displayed correctly when using the Eat Pizza emote with specific male Au Ra face type.
  • Graphics were not displayed correctly when using scholar’s action Seraphism with certain male characters.

Also included in the Patch 7.0 Hotfix update were fixes to bugs related to Final Fantasy 14's major graphical update. Male au ra faces that glitched when using the "Eat Pizza" emote were among the bugs fixed, along with animation fixes for certain main story quests and trials that did not behave correctly. A graphical fix for the Scholar's level 100 ability, Seraphism, was also among the changes made in the Patch 7.0 Hotfix update. A previous update also fixed a "cheese strategy" for one of the extreme trials in Dawntrail that led players to trivialize one part of the battle.

But, some issues persist in Final Fantasy 14, with an invisible pole in the endgame hub Solution Nine being one of them. With Patch 7.01 arriving on July 16, Square Enix will continue its efforts to stamp out as many Dawntrail bugs as possible.
