Summary
- Creative Studio 3 is developing a small-scale unannounced project separate from ongoing commitments.
- Fans speculate potential remakes of Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 9 as the next projects for Creative Studio 3.
- However, that is just speculation at this time and fans will need to wait for an official announcement.
In a recent interview, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida said that Creative Studio 3 is working on an unannounced, "small-scale" project. The Final Fantasy 14 lead also stated that this project differed from their ongoing commitments, which included the development of Fantasian: Neo Dimension alongside Mistwalker.
The project tease is just one of a few things that Yoshida and Creative Studio 3 are handling. In addition to developing patch content for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, the developers are also finalizing the release of Final Fantasy 16's long-awaited PC port. Slated to launch on September 17, the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 will arrive just over a year after its original PS5 release. PC players looking to try out Final Fantasy 16 on Steam or Epic Games Store can download a free demo and see how it performs on their gaming rigs. However, the Final Fantasy 16 demo will require at least 16GB of available SSD storage.
Final Fantasy 14 Gives Update On Dawntrail Quality-Of-Life Features
At a PAX West panel, Square Enix gives an update on some Final Fantasy 14 quality-of-life features that have been highly requested by players.
Despite its deep association with Final Fantasy 14, the team at Creative Studio 3 has another project waiting in the wings. According to a Famitsu interview, which was translated by Twitter user @Genki_JPN, Yoshida said that Creative Studio 3 is working on a "small-scale" game project on top of its ongoing development of Fantasian: Neo Dimension and the Final Fantasy franchise. Yoshida said that Fantasian: Neo Dimension was being co-developed alongside the game's original developer, Mistwalker, led by Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. Although Yoshida did not say what the small-scale project would be, he added that Creative Studio 3 will keep challenging itself with different projects in the future.
Final Fantasy 14 Dev Team Working On Small-Scale Project
Yoshida reiterated Square Enix's approach to releasing games on as many platforms as possible, with the PC release of Final Fantasy 16 being just one facet of it. In response to the Famitsu interview, Final Fantasy fans took to social media to chip in their guesses at what Creative Studio 3's next project could be. The highly-anticipated remakes of Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 9 were among the most suggested by fans, with some pointing out that a remake would be a comparatively smaller-scale work in contrast to a new Final Fantasy mainline title altogether.
Between future content updates for Dawntrail and the continued work on both the Fantasian and Final Fantasy 16 ports, Creative Studio 3's schedule may be one of its busiest yet. It remains to be seen when Yoshida's team will fully unveil this unannounced project.
