During the keynote address at Final Fantasy 14's Fan Fest in Las Vegas, FF14 producer and director Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida revealed that the critically-acclaimed MMORPG would be crossing over with Fall Guys soon. The surprise collaboration between Mediatonic and Square Enix will bring things to both Fall Guys and Final Fantasy 14, with a new fame pass for Fall Guys and a new Gold Saucer attraction in FF14.
To start Final Fantasy 14's Fan Fest keynote, Square Enix pulled back the curtain on Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, the game's upcoming expansion. Dawntrail will take players to the land formerly known as the New World, known to the locals as Tural, in what was billed as a "summer vacation" for the Warrior of Light and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn following the events of Endwalker. With a summer 2024 release window, players will have to wait a little longer to experience the adventure. But, before the expansion is released, fans of Final Fantasy 14 will have a new diversion to look forward to.
Fall Guys' portion of the collaboration with Final Fantasy 14 will arrive first, starting with a new fame pass running from Tuesday, August 22 to Tuesday, October 3. Available costumes that Fall Guys players can earn include the twin characters Alphinaud and Alisaie Leveilleur, as well as Dragoon and White Mage job costumes. For Fall Guys players looking for a cuter outfit, costumes featuring a Namazu, Goobbue, Fat Chocobo, and Fat Black Chocobo will also be available. This news comes after Fall Guys revealed an ongoing collaboration with Pac-Man that brought new outfits to the game.
On the Final Fantasy 14 side, the Manderville Gold Saucer will be updated in Spring 2024 to include a new GATE and course themed around Fall Guys. The obstacle course will support up to 24 players but is still in development at the time of writing. According to screenshots from Fan Fest, one of the challenges will shrink the field from 24 to 16, so it remains to be seen how many rounds the course will go. This Fall Guys-themed course will be released sometime in the Patch 6.5x series of content updates. Yoshida said more details would come about Patch 6.5 in the upcoming Letter from the Producer Live from Final Fantasy 14's Fan Fest.
On social media, reception to the collaboration between Final Fantasy 14 and Fall Guys was positive, with players of both games stating their surprise. Given the unexpected collaborations that Fall Guys has done, players of both games will have plenty of content to do shortly.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version arriving in 2024.
