One of the most popular and hard-sought types of content in Final Fantasy 14 is the addition of Field Operations. These special open-world instances hearken strongly to classic MMO gameplay while providing players with an abundance of special activities to collaborate on and rewards to earn.

The Occult Crescent in Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail expansion is home to an especially tempting trove of loot, including one of the game's rarely seen 4-seater mounts called the Ancient Airship. If you're looking to get your hands on this special mount, here's how to get into the Occult Crescent and collect it for yourself.

Final Fantasy 14: All Cosmic Exploration Rewards

There are positively astronomical rewards to be had in Final Fantasy 14's Cosmic Exploration. Here's a rundown on how to get them.

How to Unlock Occult Crescent in Final Fantasy 14

The Ancient Airship mount is one of the many unique rewards offered in Final Fantasy 14's Field Operations addition, the Occult Crescent. As such, you'll need to unlock the Occult Crescent content for your character, and there are a few pre-requisites to take care of before it becomes available.

First, you need to have purchased and completed the game's Dawntrail expansion, at least up to the point of fulfilling the aptly named 'Dawntrail' main scenario quest in Living Memory.

Once that's done, you'll need to head to Tuliyollal and seek out the Expedition Messenger at the docks near Wachumeqimeqi at (X:17.1, Y:11.8). Speak to him to pick up the Level 100 'One Last Hurrah' quest. The objectives for it are quick and easy, and a short distance to the left of the Messenger, you'll get the opportunity to travel to a new area called the Phantom Village.

Keep in mind that this will serve as your passage to the Occult Crescent each time you want to travel there, as there is no aetheryte to teleport you there. For those familiar with the Forbidden Lands of Eureka Field Operations from the Stormblood expansion, it functions much the same way in that sense, as you must access that from Kugane.

After a sequence of cutscenes, you'll arrive at the Phantom Village, and there will be a couple more quests in the area to do before you can proceed to the first area of the Occult Crescent called the South Horn. Speak to Jeffroy the Expedition Coordinator at (X:4.5, Y:6.5) to head to the South Horn whenever you're ready and prepared.

How to Get the Ancient Airship Mount in Final Fantasy 14

To get the Ancient Airship mount, you'll need to make substantial progress in the Occult Crescent's South Horn region, raising your character's Knowledge Level and accruing a special currency called Enlightenment Silver Pieces.

You can earn Enlightenment Silver Pieces by completing various FATEs and Critical Engagements around South Horn, which pop up on the map very frequently and consistently, regardless of how quickly they're completed by players.

While pink-colored FATEs give a smaller amount of Silver Pieces (usually around 30, if you get full credit), Critical Engagements award far more and should be prioritized if you're looking to accrue as much as possible. They're also the best option for raising your Knowledge Level and leveling your Phantom Jobs, so it's a win across the board.

The Ancient Airship mount costs a total of 5,000x Enlightenment Silver Pieces, so it will be a bit of a grind to save up enough. Once you're stacked with enough Silver Pieces, head back to the base camp in South Horn and speak to the Expedition Antiquarian NPC at (X:38.1, Y:7.1). Select the 'Enlightenment Silver Piece Exchange (Other)' option from the list and then tab over to the 'Others' menu.

The second item down the list is the 'Ancient Airship Identification Key,' which will give you the ability to permanently summon the Ancient Airship mount as needed.

This mount serves as one of the game's few available 4-seater options, which means it can hold up to four players at a time, your character included. It's also arguably the most accessible option, as others are usually locked behind the completion of Savage-tier raids, hefty Mog Station prices, or special in-game events that aren't always available. So, get yourself to the Occult Crescent and take advantage of this handy opportunity.
