One of those rewards in Final Fantasy 14's Occult Crescent is the Demon Haul mount. To get it, you'll need to overcome the most difficult challenge found in the Occult Crescent's South Horn, so here's how to go about achieving victory and collecting a rare mount for your character.

How to Unlock Occult Crescent and Forked Tower: Blood in Final Fantasy 14

To unlock the Occult Crescent Field Operations content in Final Fantasy 14, you first need to have purchased the game's Dawntrail expansion and completed all of its main scenario quests, at least up to the 'Dawntrail' quest found in Living Memory. You'll also need at least one combat class at Level 100 and a gear item level of at least 700 is preferred.

Teleport to Tuliyollal and pick up the Level 100 'One Last Hurrah' quest from the Expedition Messenger at (X:17.1, Y:11.8). Completing this quest will unlock the transport point to the Phantom Village in Shades' Triangle. From there, you can then enter the first area of the Occult Crescent called the South Horn.

While inside the Occult Crescent, your goal is to increase your character's overall Knowledge Level, boost acquired Phantom Jobs, and complete more quests related to story progression through the South Horn region. The culmination of your progression leads to unlocking the region's special instanced duty called the Forked Tower: Blood. For those familiar with the Baldesion Arsenal in the Forbidden Land: Eureka or Delubrum Reginae in Bozja, this functions very similarly.

To unlock the Forked Tower: Blood in Occult Crescent: South Horn, you first need to do the following:

  • Obtain Knowledge Level 20 (maximum level for South Horn)
  • Find and collect the Survey Point at (X:15.6, Y:29.5) in South Horn (gives "The Abandoned Ascent" Record 19 for the Occult Record)
  • Archive at South Horn's base camp will then offer the 'Past and Crescent' quest
  • Complete the aforementioned quest and Forked Tower: Blood will then unlock

However, before you can actually enter the instance itself, you also need to purchase Sanguine Ciphers from the Expedition Antiquarian at South Horn's base camp at (X:38.1, Y:7.0) for either 600 x Enlightenment Silver Pieces or 960 x Enlightenment Gold Pieces.

After purchasing, you then need to use the Ciphers at the Solitary Pavilion seen above at (X:22.5, Y:21.4) when an Auroral Mirage event occurs (the sky will turn a pinkish red color).

This special instanced duty allows up to 48 players, requires a minimum item level of 690 to enter, and its difficulty is on par with Savage-tier raids. Following all mechanics accurately and collectively is paramount, and having a good selection of Phantom Jobs leveled up is highly recommended.

How to Get Demon Haul Mount in Final Fantasy 14

The Demon Haul mount is the most difficult one to get in Occult Crescent's South Horn region, because to obtain it you need to successfully complete the Forked Tower: Blood at least one time. This special instanced duty requires defeating a sequence of four exceptionally difficult bosses with mobs and even more mechanics in between each one.

On top of that, perhaps the most important thing to remember is that your character can only be resurrected up to three times throughout the entire instance, due to the 'Resurrection Restricted' debuff applied to every player at the beginning of the instance.

Only players with the Chemist phantom job equipped can resurrect players as well. If you use up all three of your resurrection chances, you will have no choice but to leave the instance, which means defeat. You'll then have to re-attempt the instance at the next opportunity.

Once you manage to complete the Forked Tower: Blood for the first time, you'll then automatically receive the 'A Fork to be Reckoned With I' achievement. Go to your 'Achievements' menu and select the 'Last Five' option under the 'Relevant' tab at the top left. Hover over the achievement to claim the Demon Haul Horn, which you can then use to permanently summon the Demon Haul mount.
