Mounts in Final Fantasy 14 are one of the most popular forms of collectible items, allowing players to travel in style by showing off their coolest and rarest rides, and with mounts coming from all corners of the game, players can expect to dive deep into their favorite types of content and be likely be rewarded with some type of mount for their efforts. Whether it's combating difficult monsters and bosses, or crafting rare, high level recipes, mounts are a near-ubiquitous reward for Final Fantasy 14 enthusiasts.
The Direwolf is one example of this reward philosophy, being rewarded exclusively to crafting enthusiasts, requiring players to dig into the game's extensive crafting system to obtain the lupine mount. While the process includes a lengthy grind, those ready to take the plunge can find an in-depth guide below.
Final Fantasy 14: How To Get the Ufiti Mount
The Ufiti mount is a reward normally given to crafters and gatherers, but players are able to obtain it without doing either.
How to Get the Direwolf Mount
The Direwolf Whistle is a reward purchasable for 120,000 gil from the Ixali Beast Tribe after attaining the seventh reputation rank, Sworn. To unlock the Ixali Beast Tribe, players will need to have completed the level 41 Main Scenario Quest "In Pursuit of the Past", followed by the level 1 sidequest "A Bad Bladder" in New Gridania (X: 10, Y:11). Once the Beast Tribe is unlocked, reputation with the Ixali must be increased by completing daily Beast Tribe quests, with a maximum allowance of 12 Beast Tribe quests available per day. While only 3 quests will be available at the beginning, as players increase their reputation rank, further NPCs will become available to provide quests, increasing the amount of Ixali reputation a player can earn per day, with quests requiring higher ranks rewarding greater amounts of reputation. The amount of reputation required to advance through the ranks are:

Since the daily allowance of Beast Tribe quests is shared across all Beast Tribes in the game, players looking to max out their reputation with every Beast Tribe should accept only the highest rank quests from each individual tribe, taking 37 days to max out Ixali reputation with this strategy. Players instead focusing solely on obtaining the Direwolf can accelerate their progress by spending all of their daily allowance on the Ixali quests that reward the most reputation, shortening the grind to as little as 15 days with this strategy.
Alternative Methods to Get the Direwolf Mount
Players uninterested in crafting or looking to skip the daily reputation grind should keep their eyes open for the Moogle Treasure Trove, periodic events that allow players to obtain normally exclusive rewards by completing special challenges. While there's no guarantee that the Direwolf Whistle will be available in a given Moogle Treasure Trove, at the time of writing, the mount has appeared in 8 out of 14 total iterations, making it one of the most commonly available rewards.
